“Wish we could stay for a week”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2008

My family made a short, overnight trip to the Maggie Valley/Asheville area for Easter weekend. I booked two rooms at the Jonathan Creek Inn based on reviews here at tripadvisor and we were NOT disappointed. Our party included 3 adults and 2 children so we booked standard rooms side-by-side (adjoining rooms were not available). I was quoted a price of $62/night + tax.
Two days before our trip, the inn called us to say they had upgraded our rooms because of remodeling in other parts of the inn. Our rooms would have 2 queen beds (instead of doubles) and screened porches facing the creek. Our price would be the same.

Check-in was smooth and the staff was VERY helpful. They gave us a run-down of the property and amenities. They were kind enough to suggest a few restaurants for dinner based on the needs of our group. The lobby is filled with local art, a sunroom with tables & board games, a couch & TV area, and a computer where guests may access the Internet. It's really lovely.

Our room was immaculate and had obviously been recently remodeled. All of the fixtures and linens were high-end and did not look like a generic hotel. Our screened patio had new outdoor furniture. The room was equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, iron & ironing board, hairdryer, coffeemaker, and a table with 2 chairs. The only evidence that the building isn't brand new is that some of the doors stick -- a telltale sign of an older property.

My husband and 2 boys went swimming in their covered pool. The greenhouse over the pool keeps the air inside at a comfortable temperature and the water was nice and warm too. There was plenty of deck furniture for observers. If you plan to swim, I would recommend bringing a beach towel (details below). The pool is not attached to the building so be sure and take warm clothes to wear back across the parking lot.

The back of the Inn faces a rushing creek and the owners have made it a most enjoyable retreat. There are several decks built along and over the creek. There are also swings and adirondack chairs along the bank. Off to one side is a screened area with a hottub -- you can soak in the spa and enjoy the sound of the rushing creek.

The only problem we had was that our bathtub was installed improperly with a gap in the underlying insulation. This caused a dip in the bottom that was beginning to wear through. I alerted the front desk attendant who said they weren't aware of the problem. She wrote up a maintenance report while I was standing there and left it for the owner.
There was a playground that we didn't get a chance to enjoy. And we did not have occasion to use the ice machine. So, while those amenities are available, I can't comment on their quality.

Western North Carolina continues to suffer from a severe drought and the local businesses are doing their part to conserve water. If you stay at the Jonathan Creek Inn for an extended period, your bed linens will not be changed daily unless you request it by leaving a special card on your bed for housekeeping. There is also a procedure for receiving fresh towels. They won't automatically replace your entire towel set on a daily basis.

We only stayed one night but I wish we could have stayed a week. I can't recommend this place enough.

Our visit to Jonathan Creek Inn in January of 2008 was AWESOME. The rooms were very clean, the rates were good, and all of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The approximate 12" of snow we received while we were there was a bonus....especially for visitors from Florida.
Our visit was centered around skiing at Cataloochee Ski Resort. The resort was only about 4 miles from this Inn.
We REALLY enjoyed our creekside room...what a view covered with snow. WE WILL BE BACK.

ps. If you plan on eating dinner in Maggie Valley, be sure to do it early, this town shuts down after dark.

The atmosphere was pleasant, but we found the rooms a bit small with our children present. More so than other hotels we stayed at in the past. The pool is not attached to the building so we decided to pass on swimming. We did not feel like walking across the parking lot wet while it was so cold out. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed the free coffee and cocoa. The price was right, but I recommend you stay on the creek side if you do not want to look out to the parking lot from your room window.
We came to the valley to ski and were happy with the kids ski free program they offered. We were only 4 miles from the slopes too, bonus.
There is a pretty good restaurant next door also. I recommend that if you care to dine out and have a glass of wine, check them out. It was all so convenient and the food was pretty good.

  • Liked — the creek out back, they made it inviting with the walk area etc.
  • Disliked — The pool being seperate from the hotel. We found the room small.

Jonathan Creek Inn, located on the main highway in the heart of Maggie Valley, is a great place to stay for one night or for a week. We were just passing through, and stopped to see if they had a vacancy after reading their ads in travel guides, etc. This inn is family owned and operated, and the rooms are attractive, clean and comfortable with a "down home" decor. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We were given a great room which had a "back door" opening out onto a gazebo, deck, and the creek. The room had a microwave and fridge, which was another plus, in addition to being located next door to a wonderful restaurant. We highly recommend this hotel and hope to stay there again when we are in the area.

A rushing stream out back, hot tub by the stream, hammock, chairs on the deck and tables if you need them or sit on your deck and watch it all, what more do you want? The staff is friendly and helpful.
It's not the Ritz, but it is clean and moderately priced. If you love the mountains, you will love it here. This is my second stay and I am planning to return in the Spring.

  • Liked — Seating by the stream
  • Disliked — Have to walk through the cold to get to the heated pool

We absolutely fell in love with the Jonathan Creek Inn. The romms was nicely furnished and had all the amenities that we look for when we travel. ( ironing board, refrigerator, micorwave etc.) The biggest surprise was the screened in back porch leading to the creek behind our room. It's so relaxing to just sit back there and listen to the water flowing. The grounds were well kept and had two seater swings on the bank of the creek where you could sit outside and let the rest of the world go by. Talk about relaxation! I would recommend The Jonathan Creek Inn to anyone looking for a peaceful, serene setting to relax. The next best thing is that yo are also within a short distance to some of the local attraction.

  • Liked — the room and the grounds
  • Disliked — Nothing

We have stayed at the Jonathan Creek Inn several times but usually in one of the Jacuzzi/fireplace rooms. This time there were only two rooms available so we chose the creek side room with a back porch. It was so great! It was a cold week end and it rained one morning but sitting out on the porch was still so peaceful because of the sound of the stream! The back door also had a window in it so we could leave it open and listen to that sound all evening. The room itself is nice and very clean. Keep in mind you are not staying at the Hyatt. The rates were SO reasonable (as usual) so even if you are out all day doing fun stuff, you don't feel like you have wasted a lot of money. It is right down the street from Cataloochee Ski area (which is also great all year) and a short distance to the Biltmore Estate/Ashville. Waynsville is a very cute area within 10 minutes with a lot of shops. Jonathan Creek Inn is the perfect central location and the staff is ALWAYS pleasant and helpful. They even have directions printed for you to some of their favorite things as well as all of the waterfalls in the area. My husband's only regret was that Joey's Restaurant was not open for breakfast (taking a few much needed weeks off!). Ghost Town In The Sky is also set to open in the spring. The whole area is GREAT for kids.
