“Best deal in town!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

11-1-2012 we had the early bird special $11.00 "This is a great deal". I had catfish, fries, roasted bell pepper soup and dessert.......LOTS of food for $11.00 They bring out cheese and crackers for snacking........Our sever "Juliette" I think that was her name WAS GREAT. She was NICE and attentive. Much better food than Hurley's bird special just down the road.

“Food good service bad”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

The food was fine but the waitress was also apparently bartender also. Refills were hard to come by and wife wanted ketchup for fries but by the time she got it she was finished eating. It took over twenty minutes to get our bill so we could pay. Wife even went to the bar to get it but was ignored. Would go eat food there again but wont because of service

“Good Food and Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We were staying at the Smoky Falls Lodge and decided to try The Moonshine Grill right there at the lodge. Turns out I could have driven 50 miles and still come out ahead!

The owner greeted us at the door and was truly charming - not, "have a nice day" friendly but truly charming and friendly in a way only found in the rural South. He showed us to our table and introduced our waiter and got us settled with a few recommendations. Although the place was beginning to fill up, he made us feel like we were the only guests in the restaurant at the time.

Our wait staff was great, genuinely friendly, helpful and efficient.

And the food? Perfect. Everything we had was just delicious. Now, maybe we could write that off to an enhanced appetite due to a full day in the clean mountain air, but I think the food was just right. We had trout, ribs, salad, sweet potato, meatloaf and even a cheeseburger (we enjoyed the first night's meal so much, we came back on day two of our stay). Everything was just really good - nothing fancy, just good solid American style food.

I highly recommend The Moonshine Grill to anyone visiting the area - bring a healthy appetite.

“Great food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

My wife and I were tired from a long day riding the bike through the mountains so we decided to order a take out meal. I was very impressed with the staff and the overall appearence of the Moonshine Grill, when I got back to our room we could not believe to wonderful meal we had - can't wait to return and enjoy the full experience.

“Patronize this place! The American dream lives.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

First, Not easily recognizable as a restaurant. The place looks more like a hotel lobby as we needed the GPS to find it and I'm pretty good with navigation. My advice? Persevere and you'll be rewarded.

Second while looking for a place to eat by reading trip advisor, we didn't read deep enough and thought that we were going for a Sunday "brunch", which by most people's definition includes traditional breakfast items, like egg dishes and cereals. Come to find out, our 11:30 AM arrival coincided with their lunch buffet opening. There was in fact no Br...just... unch. We considered leaving, but took a look at the buffet items and decided to give it a try since all of the breakfast places we'd driven past had one hour lines out the door and we'd been greeted warmly by the server who'd just taken our coffee orders.

Thirdly, never a fan of buffets other than breakfast, the food was good. Surprisingly good! Fresh baked flakey pastry rolls that were perfect for either the turkey pot pie filling or pulled pork BBQ sandwiches. Fried chicken. The sweet potatoes had just a hint of molasses in them. There were several veggies to choose from and a beef roast carving station manned by the owner, Eric, himself. Clean beyond expectation and some real cool decorations, mock ups and photos of some of the area's former residents that were know to engage in the art of making moonshine.

Some discussion with Eric reinvigorated me. He is truly a visionary entrepreneur trying to provide not only good food but a fun and educational experience for his guests. We talked about his plans for the future of the place and his concerns for our country's future. Our conversation delved a bit into some discussion about how he will proceed depending on the results of the coming election. We also briefly talked about Eric's dream of someday maybe being able to have liquor distilled, tasted and sold onsite to further the completeness of experience for his guests. Obviously a topic he is very passionate about.

Highest recommendation!
