The very best things about the Greystone Inn? The setting and the food! Lake Toxaway is gorgeous, and The Greystone is in the perfect spot for you to enjoy it. My husband and I purchased a Groupon to use for our anniversary weekend getaway. We had a devil of a time getting someone to answer the phone to actually make the reservation. Once I did, however, the receptionist was very nice and walked me through the selection process for room selection (the Heinitsh), dining, and amenities. I had to email twice before I received the email confirmation I'd been promised, but I did eventually get it.
Upon arrival, Katie at the front desk hurried us through check-in, handing us our keys and pointing to our room. She was brusque and not particularly helpful. However, we were on vacation happiness, and let it roll off. We rushed to freshen up for our 5:00 champagne cruise.
We climbed aboard the Miss Lucy, received our complimentary champagne, and were dazzled by the boat tour of the Lake. Clark Lovelace, the general manager of the Inn, was our driver and tour guide. He is very personable and very knowledgeable about the Inn, the Lake, and the surrounding area. It was great fun; don't miss it!
Dinner is another highlight of any stay at the Greystone. Keep in mind that jackets are required for men from April to October. The menu was well-chosen with varied choices and local flavor. Each of the six courses was wonderful. Even better than the food, however, was the service. The Lakeside Dining Room is where the Greystone shines!
A full breakfast is also included with your stay. It is delicious! If you're a fan, don't miss the grits! More food highlights include the afternoon tea from 3-4 and appetizers from 6-7 in the evening.
Our room was very pretty and well-appointed. The Greystone Inn is an older inn, and it's beginning to show its age in some areas. This is most apparent in the radiators (very noisy and hard to turn off) and the bathrooms. The shower in our room was abysmal. It was very slow to drain, and had random wide temperature changes. All that aside, I would almost certainly ask for the Heinitsh room again. The location of this room is ideal (no stairs to climb!), and the abundance of windows is lovely. We also enjoyed the fireplace and the whirlpool tub.
We didn't play any golf, tennis, or croquet (although they are included, and the facilities were beautiful!), but did enjoy a lovely hike amongst some of Transylvania County's many waterfalls. We would love to come back and explore downtown Brevard. I don't think we've seen our last trip to the Greystone Inn. :)
