“Nice Hotel but Not HHonor Friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

I have mixed reviews about this hotel. The hotel itself is nice. It's very clean, the lobby is nice and it has free access to a beach and a fishing pier. The location is great and I found the room and public areas to be very clean and spacious.

However when I arrived, my room was not ready and I didn't check in until after 4:00 PM (guaranteed check-in time). There was no HHonor guest check-in and I wasn't greeted as such. Then I was given a double queen-sized room (I had reserved a king) and the location of the room was less than ideal. (Avoid room 203!). The balcony was located right in front of two very large Trane air conditioner units. They were very loud and produced a lot of hot air which made sitting on the balcony very uncomfortable which is a shame because it did have a lovely view of the ocean and pool. They also sit above the restaurant and you get the exhaust from the kitchen and the odors of whatever they are cooking at the time.

I used 70,000 HHonor points for this stay and while I didn't expect any special treatment, I would have liked to have at least been "welcomed back" as a Hilton guest, received my two complimentary bottles of water in the room and not given (what I feel) is one of the worst located rooms in the hotel.

So while I would recommend this hotel based in it's accommodations and it's location, I was definitely not feeling the "love" like I have at other Hilton hotels.

Room Tip: Avoid room 203 and the one to the right of it. Very large air conditioning units sit in front of th...

We stay in this hotel about 10 nights per year. Yes, the railings on the exterior do have chipped paint. It's an oceanfront property that has salt air, high winds, and harsh weather. Paint chips.

Chris (I think it's his name and has been there at lest 4 years) at the front desk, is great. Sometimes we get an upgrade to oceanfront and sometimes we don't. As a Diamond Member we'd love to get that upgrade, but if they have a paying guest they'll get the room they pay for and we'll have to stay on a high floor away from the ice machine. It's a for profit company.

We get free breakfast coupons and the staff is great. The chefs prepare our omlets to perfection and the coffee pot is always waiting.

The beach gets very crowded. If you normally travel out of the country and stay at a Hilton Family hotel you will have free chairs and umbrellas at the beach. At this Hilton you have to pay to use the chairs and umbrellas. You can hop into Walmart and buy these items, saving money if you'll be there a couple days it will be cheaper.

Room Tip: Oceanfront is best, but if not an option, the exterior rooms are better than those facing the court...

Hilton Garden Inn's offer reliably consistent value. Its similar to visiting a Target, where one expects a similar experience with each visit. When trying to choose between 2 similarly priced Hotels in the same location, the HGI's have been a reliable choice every time.

From the moment you step into the well decorated lobby you feel relaxed and welcome. The staff is fantastic and the location is extremely convenient, right at Kitty Hawk Pier. We can't wait for the opportunity.

Probably the most luxurious hotel in Kitty Hawk, if not on Outer Banks, NC. Located right by the beach. We stayed only one night there, and closeness to the beach was important, because the kids went for a swim after we arrived, at sun down. Reading the other reviews, I don't quite remember having any problem with the room, or with the hotel lobby. I appreciated cookies, coffee and tea always available by the reception. I noticed they had a bonfire by the pool. On the negative side - breakfast was not included in our $220.00 price. But across the street, there is a small shopping center, where delicious fresh hot donuts could be purchased for a small price.

Room Tip: Try for a room with a view of the beach.

This was the best hotel stay I have ever experienced. The hotel was awesome, great location and the staff was incredible. My family was treated like we were top priority at every turn, regardless of how small a request was. Every staff member was polite and always smiling. Everyone working at this facility, from management down, should be commended on a job well done. Thanks for a great stay.

My husband and I used 140k Hilton points to stay at this location. I have always had a good experience at HGI's so was looking forward to taking a few days to relax at the beach. The lobby is updated but nothing else has been maintained. The outside of the building is in bad shape and the room we stayed in probably hasn't been updated since opening. Paint was chiping off the walls and there were no bed skirts on the bed. Maybe other rooms were better but I expected a decent room as a diamond member. I would not recommend staying here.
