The Cypress House Inn (not to be confused with the Cypress House B&B managed by the same people) was our first experience renting a house at the Outer Banks. It is a huge house complete with furnishings and if you look in exactly the right direction you can see the ocean. Beach access is a short walk. Location was central to the places we wanted to visit. The location was also a major problem: noise from the highway. The house is adjacent to US 158 where trucks and cars can be heard all through the house. The problem was magnified by the fact that the A/C couldn't keep up with the heat. You can keep the house cool enough by opening the sliding glass doors off the kitchen and living room but then you not only let in cool air you let in noise and exhaust fumes from the highway. Most of the house was clean enough except the kitchen. The utensils, dishes, pots & pans all had to be washed before using. Carpeting and living room furniture needed a good cleaning. We did go at the end of the season so perhaps if you go in the spring, the situation might be different.
The house has many amenities: dishwasher, washer & dryer (bring your own detergent), hot tub which was temporarily out of order, outdoor shower, plenty of parking space, cable TV, VCR & DVD players
