“I would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014 via mobile

We had a pleasant stay. Decent breakfast. Great location near 2 public beach access points. Never made it to the pool. There was tons of kids the one time we checked. But it is a family place so that is expected. I still felt it was on the pricey side is really the main complaint

Well we are certainly glad that you enjoyed your stay with us enough that you "would stay again". We love to get these kind of comments from our guests and it just reinforces that the care and attention we pay to detail when it comes to our guests really is noticed. I did happen to notice that your stay was in the middle of august, so of course we certainly were pretty full with kids on their summer vacations.
If I Might just pass along a tip....the Outer Banks is beautiful year round...so next time you travel if it suits your plans you may try late May or early June...weather is nice and warm and not quite as many kids yet due to school schedules. Even Mid July was not too bad, the middle to end of August is often many families last chance at vacation before the kids head back to school. Have you ever tried the OBX in the fall or spring...April is gorgeous here with weather often in the high 70's & 80's. The beaches are less crowded and relaxing. The rates are phenomenal when we head into October & November the crowds are gone and we offer FREE YMCA passes if you feel the need to swim. Our ocean view rooms are really reasonably priced and there is nothing quite like stepping out onto your balcony with a steaming hot cup of free coffee and smelling the ocean breeze. The front desk is always ready to book a guest a long weekend or midweek getaway with the great deals I mentioned......why not give us a call soon 252-441-0411 ext.1

The hotel is in a great place, a short walk to the beach, very convenient, it would've been a perfect stay if the pet room would've been nicer, the carpet smelled like cat urine, I did not want to step on that carpet at all, it was so gross, one of the days the cleaning people came and literally just took the garbage and that was all the cleaning that was done, of course we told Diana and she immediately came in and cleaned the room out for us, she was great! the breakfast was nice and there was always enough food, the pool was nice, although one day it rained and by the afternoon it stopped but no one cleaned the pool, there was leaves and it looked really slimey and there was green stuff at the edges of the pool, nasty indeed! Suggestions to the hotel management, PLEASE get rid of that horrendous smelling carpet for the pet rooms, if it wasn't for the smelly carpet I would've given you 5 stars, the cleaning people you hire should do their job, isn't that what you hire them for? everyone likes a clean hotel and you are well below standards.

Room Tip: Please do not choose a pet room, they are horrible and stink like cat urine. make sure you get some...

I am certainly surprised that you did not find our pet room standards as good as most all other guests do. Usually upon check out when we ask our guests how they enjoyed their stay, more often than not we have guests comment that if they didn't know it was a pet friendly room they would not even be able to tell. We take great pride in the cleanliness of our rooms, giving extra care and attention to our pet friendly ones.
Once a week the carpets on the first floor are shampooed with a special environmental solution which is safe for your loved ones, more often if it is deemed necessary. Every room is inspected prior to a new guest checking in. We have a certain criteria which is met for the pet room cleaning/ inspections. That is as follows:
All carpets, curtains and bedding are thoroughly vacuumed and are free of pet hair and dander.
Every room is "Hands & Knees" inspected, YES that means someone gets down on their hands and knees and gives the carpet the "smell" test, paying special attention to the corners, area"s by the doors and under the table At this time we carefully inspect for the possibility that a previous pet may have brought some extra "critters" along for the vacation, appropriate action is taken if that is ever found to be the case. I am happy to say that most pet owners are very conscientious when it comes to the care of their animals.
We spray all carpets every time they are vacuumed with a deodorizing/neutralizing spray.
We keep and excellent log book at the front desk. That is how we maintain the standards of excellence we are so proud of. When there is an issue reported by a guest, we do whatever is necessary to rectify the problem as quickly and efficiently as possible. Upon checking that log book I see no reports of the issue you are speaking about. I am sorry you encountered this problem but, "we can't fix it--f we don't know its broke".
You did mention that when you spoke to Diana at the front desk she came immediately to clean the room, which does in fact back up my statement that when we are made aware of any issues which a guest has we do whatever is necessary to rectify the problem and make it right. In defense of our amazing housekeeping staff, they do not go into the rooms and clean if you are not there or if your pet is not kenneled. This is for the safety of your beloved pet, as well as our staff (some pets are not at all happy when a stranger comes into what is their masters "home". I am not entirely sure what occurred that day that the housekeepers did not service your room the way you would have liked and I am sorry for that inconvenience, but I am glad that Diana was swift and courteous in her duties and responsibilities to be sure that you and your family were taken care of.
We stand behind the excellent standards we are very proud to offer throughout our hotel, but especially in the quality of the pet friendly rooms. We here at the Travelodge know that to many pet owners, that beloved animal is a family member. As such we treat them just a we treat all of our guests to clean comfortable rooms, at affordable rates.
I truly apologize to you and your family for what you felt was not the best hotel experience in the Outer Banks, and I wonder if perhaps you just had a bad experience due to other factors which may have occurred while you were on vacation. We really do take a great deal of pride in our hotel and I hope that perhaps you may consider trying us again on a future visit.

This was our first trip to the Outer Banks, so we had no idea where to stay. We found the Travelodge on the internet, and were not disappointed. Our room was very comfortable and clean for a reasonable price. We had an ocean view - only negative was that the hotel is across the street from the beach, and there are houses and telephone wires disrupting the view. Still - for the price - not bad. The front desk staff was very nice and willing to help us in any way they could. The location is central to many different activities along the Outer Banks. We had a great stay and would definitely return.

We returned from out annual week in OBX. My family and I returned a third time to the Travelodge in Nags Head. This hotel only gets better! Our room was comfy and clean. The housekeeping crew was very nice and attentive to our needs. We loved the pool which we used daily and my kids had other children to play with everyday. The best part is the location across the street from the beach. We loved the breakfast which was just right for the kids. We had one issue where my husband accidently dropped his keys down the elevator crevice. I spoke to Diane at the front desk and she was able to contact the elevator maintenance person to assist us and we got back the keys an hour or two later. When I checked out I booked my trip for next Summer!!!!! We even brought a friend with us this year and he also booked for next year.

Room Tip: We had a room by the swimming pool. The pool closes at 10pm so it can be slightly noisy. One year...

We stayed at the travelodge for a week. The staff was amazing there was not a staff member we didnt come in contact with that didnt speak our room on the 4th floor was immaculate. The manager Sherry was always available for questions and helped us find great places to eat. The 2 housekeepers on the 4th floor kept our room exceptionally clean all week and were very respectful and accommodating to our schedule and needs. Will definitely stay again.

I would like to start off by saying thank you so much not only for taking the time from your busy schedule to write a review of your stay at our hotel, but also for your kind words. Your rave reviews of the staff here just reinforces what I always stress to the employees..."Treat each and every guest like family, and the results will be satisfied and happy guests!"
Falana & Crystal are my housekeepers on the 4th floor and it doesn't surprise me that they added to the enjoyment of your stay. These girls take a great deal of pride in "their" rooms as well as "their" hotel. All of the staff here think of the hotel as their own, and treat the guests as though they are their own personal guests.
It is because of our guests who take the time from their busy lives to write reviews for perspective guests, that those guests can make informed decisions when choosing a place for their vacation accommodations.
We look forward to the next time you can come and stay with us for a while. Be sure to call the front desk directly and mention that you are a repeat guest (it will speed up your reservation process) 252-441-0411 extension 1
