Description: Nestled off the beaten path in a Victorian house surrounded by 400 year-old oak trees, we are a local's favorite. Our seafood is brought in fresh daily, and we use locally grown ingredients. All the locals love our filet dishes as well as our large menu. All desserts are homemade. We are a family run restaurant with most of our staff having been with us for over 15 years. We do everything to make sure all of our customers leave happy.

“Great things come in small packages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

This is not the first time that we have eaten at Colington Cafe and it will not be the last. Over the years the food has been nothing less than great as well as the service.

Do not be fooled, even though the Victorian house looks very small, often great things come in small packages. The house and grounds are really fixed up really nice as seen on the web page.

You can view the menu ahead of time to get an idea of what you may like for dinner. It is really hard to recommend a specific dish since all have been very good. I tend to lean for the Fish Dujour while my wife likes the Pork Au Sherry.

The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food and service. We would recommend that you obtain reservations early in the day as they can fill up rather fast leaving you little choice of sitting times.

It is no wonder that they consistently get #1 rating on Tripadvisor….we would have to agree.

“Nice restaurant and setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

The restaurant is an old house. Food was a bit expensive but interesting specials and they are willing to alter meals (bigger or smaller size steaks). No liquor but do serve beer and wine. Interesting place

“One of the Best on the Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We went to the Collington Cafe during our October visit to Nags Head--only our second visit there, and had a fine dinner with excellent and efficient service. Hubby remembered the dinner from trip #1, and ordered the same dish--scallops and shrimp in a sherry cream sauce, and said it was as good as he remembered. I had a filet, done to the medium rare stage as requested. The mashed potatoes were REAL mashed potatoes. The only flaw in the two meals: the mixed veggies with my husband's dinner were flavored with spices that diminished rather than enhanced them--fortunately for me, I had requested broccoli instead, which arrived crisp and tasty--a little lemon juice for flavor and it was delicious. The restaurant decor is pleasant, and spotlessly clean. We felt welcome from the reservation phone call right through our dinner to the tasty dessert (creme brulee). (Do make a reservation, this is a busy and popular restaurant) We plan on another visit with our next trip to the beach. A nice restaurant for a special occasion.

“Darling, delicious spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

It's romantic, it's lovely, it's delightful! Have returned here over several vacation & anniversary trips and never have been disappointed. The service is exceptional, especially in the shoulder seasons. The dining rooms feel homey, room, pretty & comfortable. And the food is wonderful! Wish it were closer to home...we'd be regulars. Worth looking for, off the main drag...you'll be glad you made the trip!

“Colington deserves every 5-star rating!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

We were looking for a special place to take visitors. Although we have been to some excellent restaurants on the Outer Banks, we wanted to try someplace new ourselves. When the colington Cafe popped up as number one, it seemed to be the best place to go. We are so happy we did go there.

They do not answer the phone until 3:00 in the afternoon but we were easily able to make reservations for five on a Saturday evening when I called on Thursday afternoon. We were greeted at the door so pleasantly I had a great feeling before even sitting down. Our server was with us immediately and, again, was so very, very pleasant -- cheerful but not phony. We were given a table in what appeared to be the sun room. It was all windows, had a very country French feel with wreaths on the walls and a cheerful mural and a view of the garden path.

The server described the specials but also gave us a printout which was much appreciated. I can never remember the details of the special dishes but I had never been given a printout before. We did not have to wait for anything. The drinks came immediately, the warm brie with bread and fruit came with the warm rolls and butter. We finished the app as the server came to clear for our main dishes.

Oh, the main dishes. Two of us had the specials -- salmon with a parmesan-crab-sundried tomato crust and tuna with a spinach souffle -- which were both perfect. The salmon was not at all dry and the flavors were a perfect blend. The other two dishes were filets, one with a crab cake and one topped with crab and Bernaise sauce. Both filets could be cut with a knife and were cooked as requested.

Our party included a 6-year-old who was treated with the same respect that the rest of the party received. Of course, being a cutie, the staff also gave her several compliments which she loved and made the visit special for her. They have an excellent children's menu but the portions are very generous on the children's menu.

For desert we had delicious creme brulee and apple/cherry crisp. That would be my only disappointment if I had to choose a disappointment. I have had better brulee but this was certainly adequate and a very nice top to a delicious dinner.

As we drove away, we talked about how surprised we were that we had only been there for an hour and 15 minutes, actually just a little less than that. We did not feel rushed at any time, yet we did not feel like we had to wait at all either. The pace was perfectly timed. I am looking forward to our next visit.
