“Just okay...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012 via mobile

To be honest, we never planned on going to the Flying Fish Cafe. We ended up there when everywhere else had an hour plus wait. I think this is one of those restaurants that appeals to a certain group of people: wine lovers and those who like to chitchat during and after meals along with dessert. Neither of those things applied to us. We couldn't find anything we liked on the menu, but since we were starving, we managed to pick something. The fried oysters and crab cakes were okay and the ribs were pretty good. The atmosphere was a bit awkward... It was a mix between fine dining and casual dining. I definitely don't think this place is family friendly. On the other hand, everyone around us seemed to really enjoy the place...

“To salty foid!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012 via mobile

We went here because of the good rewives on tripadvisory. We got disapointed! The crabsoup was to salty, the salmon was to salty and overcooked, the grouper was overcocked! The food would have been sooo much better without all the salt!! And it was expencive! Not worth the money! the service was ok, we had a bottle of wine, they did not refill our glasses and the wine was too warm.

“Loved It”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

As other reviewers have stated, the food is excellent and offers many interesting unique dishes. The ambiance is perfect - not nearly as noisy as the industrial warehouse trend that seems to be popular, but not so quiet as to make you whisper to your tablemates. It is not a big restaurant, so it has that more intimate cozy feel but not cramped. The wait staff was very knowledgeable about all of the menu listings (almost half of which are daily specials!), and the staff was also very accommodating to people's requests.

We loved the food so much that we went back again before our week-long trip was up. We had two different specials of sea bass with risotto, and both were creamy and delicious. The chicken and orzo soup was absolutely delectable and could have been a meal in itself. All of the fish dishes were spectacular. The rum cake dessert is quite yummy and big enough for 4. The prices are higher than average but certainly not a rip-off considering the quality of the food you are getting.

We visited in September, so reservations were not absolutely necessary. However, considering the size of the restaurant and the high quality meals, I would definitely make reservations during peak season.

“Great ambiance and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012 via mobile

We went here based on other reviews. The food was excellent. Some of us chose from the daily specials and others from the regular menu. All choices were good. The service was friendly. We liked the fact that this is a small, cozy place and even when full, you could easily carry on a conversation. This is a nice change from so many restaurants that reach a loud din as the evening wears on.

“Delicious!!!”

Began with the Calamari and a bottle of Columbia Crest Sonoma La Crema. Both were exceptional! Had the Sea Bass and Mahi Mahi. Could not have been better! Relaxed atmosphere....great food!
