“Enjoyed the Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

Spent 3 days over Labor Day 2014. The hotel staff was friendly, efficient and accommodating. The breakfast was good and even though the hotel was full there was always food. The rooms were clean and the bedding was comfortable. We had hot weather but the AC worked great. There was a slight musty smell in the rooms. We left the door open a bit which cleared the air. The hotel is close to the beach. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Top floor, near beach

Let me preface this review by saying I frequently travel to OBX on short family getaways and have stayed at many hotels in the area. I am also an admitted germaphobe who is a stickler for a clean place to stay.

Certain people have panned this hotel, but I truly say it is not half as bad as I expected. There were both pros and cons that should be addressed.

To begin, the room was of average size, typical of any hotel in the area. The room did have a strong pungent odor, but as suggested, it is probably typical for a hotel of its age and location. However, the bathroom and bed area was clean. NO complaints on the comfort of the bed. Anyone knit-picking about the linens or pillows should realize this is not the RITZ and should be willing to shell out more money on four-star accommodations with $$$$ rates. Quality Inn is a budget hotel with basic features, and this room was EXACTLY that. To address the pool...some people complain about the small area, but when you are at the beach, you should not be spending a great deal of time at the pool anyway. If this is the case, visit a waterpark/resort instead of a beach town. The carpets were a bit stained, but no worse than any other hotel in town. I NEVER walk barefoot in any hotel because I know the floors are probably dirty. The outdoor walkway and steps were stained, but it is important to realize, they are made of concrete......yes they should be power washed more frequently, but if guests were not such pigs, this would not be a problem. The paint does seem to be peeling, but it is very difficult to fix during peak summer season. The a/c unit was my biggest complaint. Even though it was not loud, it ran all the time and was very difficult to program.

We were given a 3rd floor room, so there was little noise. Due to the many breakfast places in the OBX, we did not try the breakfast, but it did smell good as we passed by.

Also, when people complain about the prices, I paid no more for this than any hotel in the area. After all, it is a MAJOR tourist destination, and prices reflect this point. Of course no hotel is worth the rates, but is there really any other alternative besides renting a house for the week?

All in all, the Quality Inn was an average hotel....not perfect, but certainly FAR from the worst place around. The location was great and I would consider staying again. Do not be scared away by all the negativity....our stay was completely satisfactory.

We just got home after a 3 night stay and we're still talking about it - but not in a good way. For the first couple of nights, the rooms were cleaned whenever we left to hit the beach. However, on the last night we were there, after coming back from a long day of shopping, we came back to a room that had our days worth of trash just sitting there untied. When we attempt to move the bag, a cockroach the size of my thumb emerged and started running around. Needless to say, my family and I gathered all of our belongings and placed them on the bed/dresser while we attempted to find the roach. After 30 minutes of searching, we finally were able to catch it. The next morning when I told the front desk while checking out, she assured me that what I saw was not a cockroach but a palmetto bug and that they are harmless. Even if they are harmless as she says, I still do not want to stumble upon one while on vacation. Next time, I'll probably choose another hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey. We always appreciate hearing from our guests. I'm sorry to hear you did not completely enjoy your stay with us, but thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. As you mentioned it to the desk clerk at check out the issue was addressed, as with any property bugs can never be completely avoided but we do are very best and have a pest control plan in place. Once again thank for your comments and safe travels.

Sincerely.

We just got home after a wonderful 2 night stay at this hotel. We were in room 323 & loved the view of the ocean! The room was clean & the beds were VERY comfortable with the new bedding and pillows...we slept like babies! The breakfast was plentiful & good....they could just use more seating options because it was packed full! The breakfast ladies were so helpful & had smiles on their faces...even willing to get us a certain oatmeal and yogurt flavor we were looking for. The front desk ladies were very nice & helpful. This will be a new favorite place to stay!

I always appreciate a good Quality Inn and this is a good one. My favorite part was being able to walk out of my room and see the Wright Brothers monument a few blocks over. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was well stocked and taken care of - typical fruit, cereal, and juice but also waffles, pancakes, and biscuits. I wish the chain was able to not create so much waste (plastic cups individually wrapped in plastic) so I took my own cup for juice and hot tea. Actually, I used the ice machine and the refrigerator in my room to make iced tea from the hot tea which was nice. Bed was comfortable and the bath towels were so soft! We couldn't get a good wifi signal in our room. We never used the hotel beach access, just the public access beside us where there was also a lifeguard.

Room Tip: There are only a few rooms that actually face the ocean and you will need the third floor if you wan...

The room had peeling paint and rust stains around the door. Room and hotel had a lot of cosmetic issues. I complained to the front desk upon arrival, and never heard from management. Not recommended!!

Room Tip: If you don't mind peeling paint and only one elevator, choose the ocean front rooms.

Location was great. Free breakfast included pancakes, waffles, and sausage gravy! It wasn't homemade but did the trick. The pool was small but the kids still loved it. There's plenty of sitting areas around the pool and you can hear the waves from there. The rooms were clean and comfy. Nothing fancy. Perfect for beach lovers. The beach area was actually very busy for the outer banks.

Room Tip: First floor oceanfront has a view of dunes and the pool, you have to go higher to see the ocean. Th...
