We needed a pet friendly room for one night and were pleasantly accommodated. Room was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Great shower with hot water! Staff was friendly and provided a nice breakfast in the morning. Nice quiet room during off season. We will definitely be back, as we often make short trips. Thank you!

I typically rent a house in the Outer Banks and this is the first time staying in a hotel. The staff was friendly and they upgraded me to an Oceanfront room (it's off-season). The room was clean and simple with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, iron, and flat screen TV. I had a balcony to watch the sun rise. They offer free continental breakfast, Wi-Fi, and access the YMCA (about .5 miles away). At the YMCA, they had a 4-lane swimming pool, workout machines, basketball and racquet ball courts, hot tub, and sauna. It was off-season so it was very quiet. At $60/night, it was a bargain. The location was great near restaurants (Pigman's BBQ, Kill Devil Grill), Wright Memorial, and Jockey's Ridge. I will stay here again.

A great pet friendly place right on the beach with an awesome breakfast. I was in town for the Southern Fried Half Marathon and this was the perfect place to stay. It was close to all of the different race venues so that made it ideal. I will definitely be back for next years race and will stay here.

Room Tip: Bring a fishing pole and beach chair and take some time to relax.

Our first time to the Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk area. So booking this hotel was a preference as it has smoking rooms available. The room was average, basic cable & mid-size TV, small bathroom & sink. The room has the beachy musky smell, but again very affordable for three nights and offered military discount. Steps away from the beach. Friendly staff all around. Continital breakfast was good. The hotel is near Harris Teether grocery store and mintues away from good mom & pop resturants & name brand fast food places. It was off-season, so not very many people & no late night noise. I honestly cant compare our stay with what it might be during the busy summer season. Again the staff was nice and friendly.

Room Tip: If you prefer a smoking room, this might fit your needs. The east side rooms have the morning &...

We needed a dog friendly place and the Ramada was booked. We hesitated to book the John Yancey because of the mixed reviews. We ran out of options, booked it for 2 nights and hoped for the best.
The place was much better than expected. The location was great. Nice beach, very friendly and helpful. The first night all the ocean fronts were gone but they freed up for the second night. They let us keep our stuff in the first room while we went out sightseeing and they readied the new room and moved the crib for our grandson.
As far as complaints about it being weatherbeaten and needing some new carpets, all I can say is get over it. The place is on the beach, It gets weatherbeaten fast. People track in sand into the room and it wears down the carpet.
I would book again!

Room Tip: Pay the extra money for an ocean view. Get up early, catch the sunrise.

We were reluctant to stay here because of the negative reviews. We were travelling with a dog and the other pet friendly hotels were booked. I'm very glad they were. The first night we stayed in an "easy access" beach room. You walked out the door, down the hall and you were on the beach. The next night we moved to a beach front room, where you literally walked out the slider, off your deck and were on the beach. As other people have commented the building was dated, but clean. All the employees (from the front desk to the maids to the maintenance workers) were super helpful and friendly.

This place is just okay. It's old and weather beaten on the outside. The type of place carpets are stained and unattractive, but vacuumed. The bathroom was clean, and the linens were clean. That's the important part, right? The room had a mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker, all were clean. Access to the beach is great here, which considerably ups the value. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. The breakfast is more plentiful than the average continental breakfast, but nothing is very good.

Over all, this isn't a place that will impress many people, but it's a place to stay with easy beach access and other amenities close by.

Just don't order pizza from Slice, the place advertised on the key cards. It's terrible.
