“Terrible service and no one appeared to have any authority or idea on how to run a hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2010

Booked two nights in king suite for family of four, called en route to confirm and advise of late arrival. Arrived 11pm to a single room - one bed for four of us. Was told there was an issue with our original room - found out later it had been given away earlier in the evening. Wad promised the room for the following night but they failed to do this. Ended up with two king singles on opposite ends of the hotel. We have twins under 10 years old. Was offered a free night on our next stay as compensation - not happening. We will not be paying for this disaster or ever staying at holiday inn again.

This hotel was a pretty standard Holiday Inn, breakfast was good, location is OK (about 10 miles from downtown), and pool looked like it would have been nice. The staff at the hotel, however, was pretty poor. Front desk clerk (name was something like Nila?) chatted with a friend for about five minutes before checking us in. Also, front desk clerk was rude to a customer while I was waiting. For the $$ ($95/night) you can probably do better in the area.

Hello all,

While the hotel was fair there were a few things I must share. I share them as the manager/staff were unwilling to accept any responsibility for any problems and were, by-and-large, apparently un-aware (didnt care) about any issues that I was wanting to discuss.

So, to begin:

1. Called hotel direct before making online reservation to confirm a pool was available. They replied yes, pool was open. Upon checking in the first day there was no-one who actually new that the pool was closed and had been closed for over a week. Poor communications from management to staff. Not able to get straight answer until checkout day when informed they did not care about how we felt about it. No offer of discount, anything, Not even a we're sorry. Just corporate non-talk and blame the state, county, whoever.., but not them.

2. On the weekends the nice-little-old-lady is not there the continental breakfast goes downhill and staff tries to close up shop from an hour early.....? Why, all that is needed from them is to make sure that fruit, dry cereal, etc, is available. It is not like they actually cook this stuff every day.

3. Upon arrival the fridge had been un-plugged by the maint staff and had not been plugged back in. Did not notice this until felt floor and luggage wet. Soon they will have no floors or ceilings, and mold will run rampant should this be a regular occurance.

4. Room very dustty but bed was made and towels were available. Only decaf in-room so had to make trips to desk to get all wanted.

5. Trash in hallway cans not collected for over two days. Very smelly at times when going to car.

6. Hotel is only two-stories tall and not req'd to have a elevator. Keep this in mind when reserving your room if having fair amount of luggage/stuff.

7. If put on road side of hotel the noise from I-40 can be quite annoying at night (especially as trucks seem to park along off-ramp right below room), would be nice to warn potential guest of this environmental pollution.

8. TV volumes only go to a max amount. Could be good if neighbors partying, but then you cant hear the TV very well even if all was quiet. And this was not a quiet hotel.

9. Staff freindly, but due to poor manager, generally unaware of things that customers might like to know.

10. We asked the staff to have manager to call us during our stay, he/she did not.

11. There is more to say, but above is most problems I felt should mention, actually.., they should have been mentioned to me. If they had I could not have to type all this.

  • Liked — Farily close to where I needed to be
  • Disliked — Most all else...especially as felt was deliberately mis-lead about pool. Did they need to make this reservation to stay in business? I would have been happy with the truth. But if manager is bad manager, then staff is not to be blamed entirely.

We visited my sister in Kernersville and stayed here. A kid vomited on the cement at the pool. When I told the front desk, they brushed it off and never cleaned it. I cleaned it up myself the next day. Our key never worked, it kept de-magnatizing, several times a day. They allow smoking, which doesn't bother me except the hotel is so small, you are next door to the smoking rooms.

The only pleasant time was morning, very lovely elderly woman working the continental breakfast area. Talkative, kept the area clean and always filled with treats.

We're not talking about a high class resort here -- it's a Holiday Inn Express. Still, having stayed in numerous budget motels on my current trip, I have to say this hotel was the best of the under-$100 bunch (I paid around $75/night with the AAA rate). The room was sparkling clean and the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. I spent 4 nights here and wouldn't hesitate to go back if I'm in the area again.
