“Never on a Sunday night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

I'm not sure what other nights the trash is collected from the dumpsters, but a 3:00 this morning I was awakened by a truck emptying the dumpster. It banged over and over for a total of 8 times. Then they moved to the next dumpster, and the next, and the next, same thing. Banged it 8 times...for this reason alone I would not ever stay here again. The room is clean, but small for a king bed. The sink in the room is completely cracked and needs to be replaced. The toiletries are not the usual hotel-sized bottles, they are half that size. When there is more than one person staying in these rooms, don't depend on the hotel's toiletries to get you through! The bed is comfy and the AC works well. Also they offer a good military discount. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. There are no phone directories in the room, and the guest services book lacks the information about breakfast so make sure you remember it when they tell you at check-in. We did not go down to breakfast this morning, so I have no idea how it is. Because of our plans changing and needing to extend our stay, we will be moving to another local hotel tomorrow. I'm hoping that it will be quieter!

Room Tip: Try a room on the back side of the hotel. Pretty sure you will still be awakened by the trucks empt...

I would like to start out and say, the people were nice and the room was clean. Hotel is conveniently located around major roadways, close to a plethera of restaurants and stores. Unfortunately, its that closeness that leads to its biggest downfall and that is the noise. At three in the morning, all the dumpsters from the surrounding restaurants and stores are emptied by big trucks that pick up the dumpsters and overturn them into their hoppers. The metal lids then make a huge bang when they get lowered back down. This goes on for a while since there are a lot of dumpsters to be emptied. Also, there seems to be an exorbitant amount of loud cars and trucks that travel up and down Western Blvd, which is right outside the hotel, that that noise pretty much goes on all day and into the early morning hours. Your best bet if you want to stay away from the outside noise is to get an odd numbered room (they face a wooded area) and the higher numbers as they go away from Western Blvd.

Now, the inside noise is not all that much better on the inside. Can hear the people walking in the room above, next door room, and people walking in the hallway. Now that is not too uncommon a problem but I find it personally perplexing how many people don't have respect for others around them and feel that they can speak and make loud noises in the hallway and let their doors slam all the time.

Now for the room itself, as I said it was clean, however it was small. The sink was small and there was no counter space to speak of to put toiletries for more than 1 person. There was no closet, just an open rack opposite the sink. In a separate room there was the toilet and tub. Both were clean.

We had two double beds. One bed was firm but the other was soft and sagged to the sides. Since there were three of us, there was no choice but use the soft bed.

The flat screen TV was good and offered a large selection of channels to watch.

Breakfast offering was good but honestly, bagels left a bit to be desired. It seemed to me that they were previously frozen and had been thawed out. Coffee was good.

As I said prevously, the people were nice and the place was clean. I guess I was expecting a better experience, especially since this was the #1 rated hotel in the area here on Tripadvisor.

Staying here to pick up son coming back from Afghanistan Planes were delayed and even though the hotel was completely booked for the next day and couldn't accommodate any guest who needed to stay over they let everyone hang out in the lobby until some flights made it in. Though price is a little higher than some in the area this hotel was clean and beds were comfortable. Didn't try the breakfast bar but it had quite a few choices Definitely would stay here again. Plenty of places to eat nearby and a MacDonalds across the drive from the hotel.

Stayed New Year's eve after yet another long drive. It presented as clean overall with some areas of the hotel needing a few 'upgrades', like maybe some new carpet, for instance. Beds were quite comfortable and our room boasted a fridge, coffee maker, blow dryer, microwave, and flat screen television. The bathroom was clean, though, the shower could have used a little updating as it was scuffed up a bit. Shower curtain was clean but the shower valve needed to be replaced as it was a challenge to adjust the water temp properly. Overall, we were satisfied with the room....not fancy, but, comfortable and the 'best in town' considering all other hotels are in 'tough' shape, therefore, we gave it a 4 star. It's a 4 star in comparison to the others in Jacksonville, Camp LeJeune area. We were impressed this hotel was incredibly quiet for a New Year's eve.....in 'Marineville', nonetheless! I guess that acoustics are top notch. We were also impressed with the complimentary morning breakfast that offered: make your own waffles, coffee, tea, juices, instant grits, instant oatmeal, assorted cold cereals, assorted yogurts, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, danish, bread for toasting, bagels and cream cheese, grapefruit and peach fruit cups, microwaveable Jimmy Dean brand sausage egg and cheese sandwiches, microwaveable corn dogs. The breakfast attendant was always available and 'restocking'; she was quite pleasant and attentive, also. We paid $117 inclusive of tax....well worth it. We will stay again when visiting Jacksonville, NC.

Room Tip: Not a pet friendly hotel.

Room was very clean and comfortable. 4 pillows on the king bed and all were very comfortable. Bed was AWESOME! not too hard not too soft. It was very quiet. Breakfast had a wide variety and was good. Lobby and breakfast area was also very clean. I travel frequently in the US and Europe and this was one of the better hotels. I wasn't thrilled about the price ($119), but it seemed to be comparable for the area.

This was a decent property, although when compared to other Fairfield Inns it’s showing its age a little. I stayed in a King room, has micro/fridge and 32” flat screen. Everything was clean and fresh and updated, but not NEW like other FFI’s. The bed felt worn out/soft. Pillows were mixed with some excellent feather pillows with some lumpy foam pillows mixed in. The work area is fair, with too few outlets to power multiple devices and the chair is too low and unsupportive for working. The breakfast was good, up to Fairfield standards. The staff was friendly. The hotel is near MANY restaurants and stores. Traffic can get heavy out front, but no noise crept into room at night.

I give this property 85/100 with 70/100 for value. When a FFI in Jacksonville, NC costs well north of 100.00 the value drops considerably. Now you’re starting to get into Hilton Garden Inn territory, at which point the FFI is outclassed.
