“Jambalaya? Not really.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Marina Cafe in Jacksonville, NC offers the locals and travelers the standard seafood grill menu plus the usual non-seafood eaters fare.
Not particularly bad, just average. I ordered the shrimp jambalaya. Mildly spicy with a hearty portion of chunked vegetables, but more like a seafood stew or thick soup than a jambalaya. Calamari appetizer was tentacle laden and nearly choked my poor wife. Still, tasty if you could eat around the squid's arms.
Service was friendly an attentive.
Not sure of which seafood restaurants in Jacksonville offer higher quality fare, but will continue searching next time we pass through.

“Pretty good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We have a couple 1/2 off coupons so we took a road trip from MHC to check out Marina Cafe. It's not much to look at from the outside, pretty run down looking but the food was good and so was the service. It's very casual. It was a chilly day so we ate inside but it looks like they have a nice outdoor seating area on the water. We have another coupon to use so we will go back.

“Good sandwiches and cold beers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

we recently stopped here for a quick bite to eat. We ended up spending about 2 hours sitting by the docks, outdoors enjoying the view, food and beer. The waitress was extremely competent and always attentive to details. The crab dip is wonderful The sandwiches are reasonalby prices and filling. 9 of us all had something different and without one complaint. The beer was cold and a good selection.
In side they had multiple pool tables and video games.

“Good Drinks and Dessert”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012 via mobile

I have been to the Marina Cafe many times with friends. We normally get drinks and they never disappoint. The food all seems alright, nothing extraordinary. I have learned to stick with the sandwiches. However, if you love dessert try theirs! I always get a dessert and somehow I always forget my bland meal. Yummy!! Last I was there they told me they buy the desserts locally, which is a plus.

“Booze cruise”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

FYI I'm mostly just reviewing the sunset cruise here. (I've eaten there before as well, it was just okay so we've only been the one time. Wasn't wowed. The outside is nice but I felt sorry for the parrot getting harassed by all the drunks.) The cruise brochure says it's "peaceful" and a relaxing way to end a hectic day... so the hubby and I went for date night. We were told the walk-on 6:00 Friday cruise was reserved for a group but the boat would go out again a second time, so we waited for that one. We didn't get out until 8:30 so there wasn't a "sunset"; most of it was in the dark. Which would have been great too but the boat is all indoors; just small windows and a teeny deck (fits like, 6 people) to actually enjoy the water/view. And our cruise was crowded so there was no getting onto the deck. So since we were essentially indoors in the dark the captain turned on the lights - which meant even less of an outdoor view. We ended up standing by one of the 2 big windows - no seats there, so we stood the whole 2 hour trip. You're allowed to bring drinks on, so a couple groups brought like, 6 big coolers and crowded the isles with them, and then apparently instead of taking a "peaceful" cruise we realized we were on a booze cruise. Rowdy is a better description that relaxing. Also, SMOKING IS ALLOWED, and as I mentioned before you are basically indoors. So that would have been nice to know ahead of time. It was really more of a bar scene on the water, so if you're into that this trip is for you. If not, pass. We were just glad we hadn't brought the kids - one of which can't be around smoke and none of which should be listening to the swear words and conversations that were happening around us. (Ie the captain gave over the microphone to one passenger right before we docked and he finished his announcements with "Now lets land this B****") We tried to make lemonade out of lemons so chatted and ignored the surroundings for the first hour, but the second hour we were definitely just waiting to get back. Should have gone to the movies.
