“Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

360 view of NC and TN. Short hike to the top. Take a picnic lunch with wine. Take plenty of pictures. Takes about 45 minutes from Hot springs and part of the trip is dirt roads.

“Beautiful view of the Smokies and beyond”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Nice rustic drive to a parking lot at the base of the hiking trail. From there, climb the trail through a field to the top. Great views. Usually a great breeze blowing. Perfect for kite flying. Not wheelchair friendly.

“Nice views, but over-rated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Once you get there, beautiful views for sure. After a pretty steep hike straight up from the parking lot, you get great 360 degree views and pictures. However, first you have to endure +20 miles on poor paved/gravel roads to get there and once you are there, the Appalachian Trail is poorly marked. We were glad we paid $60 to shuttle the four of us from Hot Springs (Outdoor Outfitters) and back to save our rental car from the likely damage. If I had more time, I would have driven us to Roan Mountain. Same great views, much better access roads, much better Appalachian Trail experience, and restroom facilities.

“Ahhhhhh”

How can you give Max anything less than a 5! Is beautiful and has a true mountain vista. Though I hear Max can be brutal in the harsh winter months, when north bound thru hikers summit.

“Great Hike on the Appalachian Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Very remote area, exceptional views, great workout, lots of blueberries (be on the lookout for bears). We spent about six miles traveling on a gravel road to get to this location.
