“Worth the drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

It was a bit of a haul up a gravel road (in our sedan), but well worth it. The views are breathtaking.

“360* Degree View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

After a long, dusty ride to reach the base of Max Patch we were ready to climb to be rewarded with the view. It was a perfect day with few clouds. We hiked the path to the top, following a family that had brought a picnic including a foil pan full of some type of pulled pork or chicken. The view was simply amazing! You felt like you were on 'top of the world' as you turned completely around to view the mountains and scenery on all sides. This is a must do if you're in this area. Just be warned that the dirt/gravel road up is quite long and your car will be covered with dust.

“Max Patch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

Bad roads to get there, but worth it once you arrive. I wouldn't take cars with out much ground clearance, but you wouldn't need 4WD in good weather. Views are great, and hike is pretty mild. We went on a fairly cloudy day, so I'm sure the views would have been much better if there was full sun.

“Interesting Point of View...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Okay...I am not in the most AMAZING shape but I highly recommend walking straight up the hill. It is a baby hill and the best use of your time so you can enjoy the rest of the STUNNING 360 degree view. What I actually loved most was the hikers on the appalachian trail that kept walking by...soooooo interesting to interact with them.

Now...what they don't tell you. Consider if you like your car dinged with massive gravel and if you like the bottom of your car/truck/van/ ripped out with HUGE divers and craggy rocks. We went up one way and down the other and they were equally horrifying. I have an amazing 4 wheel drive vehicle and it did fine, but was SO large, it tended to skate on the gravel and we almost spun out a couple times. If you have a junker car...great...jeep...even better. Anything else and I would use caution. The locals are HELLIONS and do not look or enjoy stopping to let you by. (they seem to forget they make their money from the rest of us) lol. Also, do NOT attempt when it is dark or raining. NOT a good idea....just saying.

“Don't walk straight up the hill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

The signs say you are not allowed to not walk straight up the hill to the top and to only take the trails and there is a reason... It is steeper than it looks and will exhaust you. Once you are there its breathtakingly beautiful.
