“Fabulous stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

We have been to many B & B's over the years, but this was definitely one of the best: very clean and comfortable, conveniently located with a quick walk to downtown Highlands, delicious buffet breakfast, and a really fun get-together with wine and appetizers each evening at 5:30. Helene and Rick know how to make their guests feel special!

Thank you so much for your kind words, and taking the time to write this review. Ricky and i loved meeting you both and talking about our adventures and travels. So much fun! If not in D.C., next year in Iceland. We look forward to seeing you all again. Take care, Helene

Out of the 50+ B&B's we've had the pleasure of visiting, this is by far the most wonderful one ever! There are so many phenomenal attributes, it is difficult to know where to begin. The rooms are adorable, impeccably clean and the beds very comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous and the hosts couldn't be nicer or more accommodating. There are so many special touches including delicious & unique homemade breakfasts everyday; freshly baked cookies in the afternoon; fun happy hours with wine, tasty hors d'oeuvres and interesting company, either nestled in the quaint parlor by the fire or out on the large wrap-around deck; the hot Jacuzzi on a cool mountain night and the Inn's friendly mascot Jake, that you will probably want to take home with you. 4-1/2 Street will exceed all of your expectations and make you want to book your next trip before you leave the one you're on.

This 100+ year old property is a gem, and its location is great, right next to town. There are three floors with guest rooms and wonderful creaky-wood floors! Our king bed was very comfortable with a nice heavy comforter. The owners, Rick and Helene, are lovely, welcoming people, who can be as involved or as unobtrusive as you'd like. Helene's breakfasts were top notch - she can cook for me any time! They were able to offer good insight into local hikes and restaurants, and we loved the 5:30pm happy hour complete with a real wood fire. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: Search the website to find one that meets your needs. We "needed" a king bed, but could h...

Took a quiet trip to Highlands last weekend and booked the 41/2 Street Inn B&B for the first time. We were greeted with warm cookies at the door!! Rooms were very quaint; very clean and the bed was great. Happy Hour from 5-7 was really fun interfacing with the others guests and enjoying the wine and chutney. Next day it got even better.... breakfast was gourmet!!! Would easily pay $50 for the quality and quantity at your favorite restaurant. Great value and really made our getaway worth the drive.

Rick & Helene's bed and breakfast is full of charm, cozy and inviting. Rick and Helene make you feel like welcomed and special friends. They are both are such delightful, and precious souls. Their accommodations are top notch with sooo many thoughtful touches. Fresh baked cookies at the stairs, hot beverages always available, fresh bath robes, logs provided for the fireplaces, daily room serve and delicious gourmet breakfast, and wine and snacks in the early evening. This is one Bed and Breakfast you need to treat yourself too!

Wonderful hosts, great breakfast, walk into a town with great pub and restaurants, many waterfalls and hiking trails within a short drive, watching magnificent sunset from "sunset rocks".....It doesn't get any better than this. Bed was so comfy and room was cozy. And the people we met there while we drank a glass of wine in the "living room" were absolutely lovely.
Great time. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Second floor is best.

I was surprised to learn that it had been six years since my last visit, but my memory served me well. This is the gold standard for B&Bs. Rick and Helene's enthusiasm and love for this place never wanes. Consistency never disappoints. From the warm cookies in the basket upon arrival, to the wine and delicious appetizers in the late afternoon, to the innovative and mouth-watering breakfasts, nothing is lacking! And, Helene shares all of her recipes! A short walk puts you in the village where shopping and dining are superb, but the Inn feels miles away - quiet, cozy and comfy. Porch sitting and rocking are encouraged. Hiking is supported! Dog lovers and wine lovers delight. (Hi, Jake!) I had failed to make reservations for Saturday night. One call by Rick, and we had a reservation at the #1 restaurant in town on its last night of the season! (Thank you, Rick). If you like B&Bs, this is THE one not to miss.

Room Tip: All are unique and special in their own way, but my favorite in #2 on the main floor which has a pri...
