One of our best trips ever. Rick and Helene went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. First trip to Highlands. Truly beautiful town. Breakfast was amazing. Our room was beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: All rooms are terrific

We visited 4 1/2 street inn for a second time and were not disappointed. The accommodations were excellent as usual. Rick and Helene are excellent hosts making sure that everyone's needs are taken care of. 4 1/2 street inn provided us with the rest and relaxation we needed. Already trying to figure out when we can return again. We would highly recommend this inn to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing get away.

What a delightful, authentic Bed and Breakfast. Sitting a few blocks from downtown Highlands is this lovely historic converted "boarding house". Although we were there during an unseasonal snowstorm, the hospitality of Helene and Ricky (the innkeepers) made our visit warm and comfortable. Our room was adorable, furnished with period pieces that reflect the history of the building. Fortunately for us, there was a fireplace in both the sitting room downstairs, and our bedroom. Nothing more wonderful than sitting by a fire on a snowy evening. Breakfast was super and the homemade cookies sitting on the "stair railing" were hard to pass up. Ricky and Helene offer highlights of the area, including restaurants fit for "foodies" like us. I can't imagine feeling more at home while on vacation anywhere.

We had never been to Highlands before and decided to take a trip for our anniversary. My husband found 4 1/2 Street Inn online and booked it. I usually like to review and pour over a place before making a reservation, but he moves a little faster than me. :)
Luckily he made a TERRIFIC choice. The Inn is beautiful, it's an older house that's been split up for guest rooms. The rooms were decorated perfectly, comfortable and clean. Rick and Helene are super hosts and have great stories to tell. They know the area very well and can give you recommendations to anything. They gave us great tips for taking a hike up Whiteside Mountain and saved us from taking a very looooooong route up. I'm not a super picky eater, but some of the breakfast items were a little different and not my taste, however she always had her homemade granola and yogurt, which was delicious.
They had a 'happy hour' with wine and cheese each evening which gave us a chance to talk to other guests and of course Rick and Helene. AND, they have a super sweet dog :) Stay here if you can!

We stayed at the 4 1/2 Street Inn for couple of days around Thanksgiving and loved it. Helene and Rick are wonderful hosts. We liked the cocktail hour each night the best, as we could meet and talk with other guests and with the inn's hosts. They were most gracious hosts and the food was excellent! Can highly recommend.

We just stayed at this B and B for at least our 10th time. We go each October to see the leaves at their peek and wouldn't stay at any other place. It's like visiting family each year. The nightly wine and snacks bring guests together and we spend about two hours getting to know each other or just catching up since last year. Rick and Helene, are perfect innkeepers. The breakfasts are great, the afternoon cookies are freshly made and wonderful, and the rooms are always clean and comfortable. If you need recommendations for a place to eat, a hike, or what to do they always have suggestions. We've stayed at probably 30 or 40 different B and B's in our travels around the country and this is the one we recommend to everyone.

We came to decompress and found the right place. The inn is probably a hundred years old and has all the charm you would hope for. The inn is very intimate. There are just 10 guest rooms, each completely unique but equally inviting. Helene's breakfasts are truly gourmet occasions and both she and Rick could not be more gracious or interesting hosts. They make you feel more like extended family they haven't seen in a long time than guests at an inn.
I think the part I loved the most was the wine party in the den every afternoon before everyone went out for dinner. We got to meet and make friends with the other guests, swap stories and share our day. (OK, I loved vegging in a rocker on the porch all afternoon too!)
My wife and I spent 4 wonderful days alternating between finding waterfalls, wandering around the wonderful little shops in town, and relaxing at the inn itself. It was a perfect weekend. We are already planning our next stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "Bird Room" which was great. On the first floor with a working fireplace...
