Look, this place is beautiful. Someone with a big checkbook and great taste has transformed this sleepy restaurant into a wonderful hotel. Everything, the paintings on the wallls, the champaigne at reception, the restaurant, the Frette sheets and towels...everything is great. BUT when I am awakened by an errant clock radio in the floor above at 6:30am and after being turned off after my call and then it goes off again.... I get pissed.

That aside, the place is a jewel...and very, very expensive. Four drinks in the beautiful Butler room cost $54 plus tip.

Am not sure if Highlands offers enough to entertain but should you b e inteested in just shacking up in a beautiful and expensive room then this is it. But be prepared to pay.

My fiance and I visited Highlands this past Sat night. We had a delightful stay at Old Edwards Inn. The service was personable and professional. We waited for nothing. A glass of champagne handed to us upon arrival was the perfect touch. The room and bathrm were a tad bit small but we were only there for one night so it was fine. King bed very comfortable and clean. The Library with couch, fireplace and player piano was a hit with us. The delicious, simple, continental breakfast was included with our room and was served in a beautiful dining room. The town was still a bit closed down for our taste, but for one night (dinner at Paolettis was GREAT!) it was a perfect romantic get away. I would highly recommend this inn.

Reservation staff did not tell me major construction was going on all over their property and on their walk to town when reservations made. Claimed they did instead of apologizing when confronted. When told fireplace did not work in room, they said that's the way it is -- instead of offering to move to room with working FL or compensating. Staff members gave different information as to why original reservations could not be honored. Staff members did not honor request to keep information about a surprise birthday party a secret after saying they would. Staff said 91 year old could be pushed in wheelcahair to restaurants when I made reservations, but not possible with construction -- not sure it would ever be possible. Told us about restaurant for one dinner, but failed to tell us it was not handicap accessible. Tremendous hardship for my mother to get to table. Said we could use the lobby with fireplace, etc. for the family to gather (we were celebrating my mother's 91st birthday and my 60th birthday) after they said the cottage with sitting room we originally reserved was not available. But they failed to tell us they lock the doors there at 9 pm -- no exceptions. Number of other small incidences of false information and poor service. Final straw was being overbilled by $67 on charge card a month after we checked out. When I asked them to explain why, they said it was a charge for 2 rooms we did not cancel in time -- room rate was $143 each so how did they come up with $67? When I tried to explain to them that they had not given us the correct credit for the original deposit, the manager said she did not have all the paper work in front of her (this is 4 hours after I explained the situation to her assistant and she said her manager would have to handle it.) and would have to call me back. Still hasn't happened. Assistant just made up reason for charge instead of saying she would look into it and manager did same thing. Explained to them that they cannot add charges after customer has looked at bill and signed charge ticket and checks out of hotel -- she had no reply to that, much less an apology. Do not think they are renovating the rooms we stayed in and they are far too rustic to have a rack rate of $143/night in April, even higher in summer.

Beatiful large rooms with cathedral ceils, tongue and groove paneling, in room jacuzzi's and fireplaces, private porches with rocking chairs.
Rooms come with complementary breakfast and wine in the evening.
Ammenity include on site putting green. Some rooms are specially outfitted for dogs. A wonderfull place surrounded by waterfalls (one you can drive your car under!) mountains and excellent shopping and dining. They call it almost heaven...I wonder why they say almost?

Nice pleasant place. Had a very large room in main building above registration area. Liked the two separate vanity/sink areas, one in bathroom and one in a dressing room/walk-in closet. Fireplace and jacuzzi in bedroom, lovely views of Highlands and the mountains. The room decor was not decorator fancy, but the space was comfortable. The breakfast room was homey and pleasant and guests on a busy fall weekend enjoyed relaxing interaction. Proximity to downtown shops is good, although the short walk to Main St. is a bit steep and physically taxing if one isn't in good physical condition.
