In the center of town, the hotel room was noisy and way overpriced. The golf club is beautiful and also the place to eat. If you go make sure you don't get a room in the main building-old, noisy and the hotel is musty. Get a room in the rear of the property.

Beautiful area, small town shops, hiking, the most relaxing spa. Feels very private and yet many things to do if that is what you want. The atmosphere of the hotel is quiet and classy. The staff is professional and friendly and helpful in every way. The food is fantastic and it is easy to get lost in conversation with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. We loved it.

Room Tip: Just tell the staff what you want and they will match you with your needs.

My husband and I had not been to Highlands NC in over 5 years and this time decided to stay at Old Edwards Inn on a golf package. The Inn was what you would expect in an historic building...slanted floors and small rooms, but very well appointed and comfortable and the heated bathroom floors are a nice touch for folks visiting during the fall and winter holidays. The staff was exceptionally well trained, accommodating and professional, but not stuffy. We were in a room that was very noisy in the early morning hours with trucks and motorcycles driving by, and decided that on any subsequent trips we would stay at the Lodge, just a short walk away which also had more convenient parking.

The Old Edwards Club golf course (formerly Highlands Cove) was exceptionally well maintained and the vistas are a sight to behold! The month of September is perfect for golfing in the mountains. We appreciated the electric golf carts over the gas ones we had years ago. The greens, fairways and yes, even rest rooms, were all in exceptionally good shape. Our trip was too short to take in much of the quaint shops in the town, but we did manage to go to Kilwins.

Room Tip: If you prefer staying close to the main restaurant, Madison's, stay at the historic Inn. If you...

The perfect last minute getaway for a friend and I. We booked a mid-week package and had an amazing time. I must admit it was not cheap and hesitated buy so glad we decided to splurge. The golf, spa, and Madison Restaurant are wonderful not to mention the comfortable beds and very accommodating staff!!

The reality is that its a quite nice older hotel that prices itself more on reputation and slick advertising than on what you get for the money. The room we stayed in was nice, but not worth nearly $600 per night. Service was reasonably courteous and pleasant, but nothing more than you'd get at your average Marriott or such. Dining experiences were average, at best, with amateurish, spotty service. There are a couple of restaurants in town that far exceed Madison's (the on-site restaurant). Unfortunately, our experience was that there's a great deal of style, but not a lot of substance.

Room Tip: Cottages may have more privacy than the main inn.
