“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We stayed at Fire Mountain July 19-21st. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and looking for a peaceful, tranquil place with a great view to get away for the weekend. This was everything we were looking for and more! We stayed in the Sathola Room and were very pleased with size of the room (huge) as well as the views. We spent hours late in the day just sitting on our porch sipping on wine and enjoying the peace and quiet and spectacular views.

Hiram and Matthew were wonderful hosts. Our pleasant experience began at check-in with a very thorough review of all that Highlands has to offer - from dining, to hiking, to shopping, to other activities/options like white water rafting... We have been to Highlands several times before, but Hiram's local knowledge gave us many new wonderful hikes that we went on that I am sure most "visitors" to the area would never be aware of.

Breakfast each day was also very nice. Very creative and very satisfying. Hiram and Matthew would visit each guest table each morning making sure all our needs were being met, that we had our plans for the day all set and to see if any of us had any questions or needed any last minute suggestions. It was their attention to details and making you feel so welcome, coupled with the accommodations and views that makes this such a great place to stay.

We will be back.

Room Tip: I was worried about lack of air conditioning - NOT AN ISSUE. Very cool evenings made it very comfor...

Very friendly, helpful staff. Eager to make your stay a great one. Great food, great location, wonderful grounds, nice facilities. We will definitely go to Fire Mtn. again, but will likely choose a different room.

Room Tip: We stayed in the tree houses, which were a little disappointing - expected a nice view from the room...

We were thrilled that this couple appreciated our very friendly and helpful staff that is eager to make the stay of each guest at Fire Mountain a great one! We appreciate the excellent recognition given to our location, wonderful grounds and nice facilities. Their last words at check-out were that they loved their experience at Fire Mountain and that they would definitely be back!

The only disappointment expressed in their review was their room, as they expected a nice view from the room. This was never expressed to any staff member during their stay. These folks booked online through the Fire Mountain website. They never talked with anyone in Reservations at Fire Mountain prior to booking. The description on the Fire Mountain website for the Laurel Treehouse indicates that from one part of the deck that wraps around the accommodation that you have long range sunset views that go out 30 to 40 miles on a clear day from your hammock and folding teak and canvas lounging chairs. These views are unobstructed but they are only from the deck as indicated and not from inside the room looking out. If this couple desired views from inside their room and even from their bed and sitting area we have a lot of accommodations that provide such and if you read the descriptions provided for each accommodation at Fire Mountain on our website you will find an accurate description of the views provided just as was the case with the Laurel Treehouse. If these folks had called prior to booking online and indicated that they wanted a view from inside of their accommodation looking out we could have guided them to the accommodations that provide such just as our website is able to do. If they had just let a staff member know at the time of their visit and at the time that they realized that they did not have the view that they desired we could have moved them to another accommodation that would have provided exactly what they desired. They were here on a Sunday and Monday night when occupancy is lowest and we had at the time of their occupancy three other accommodations available that would have provided excellent long range views from inside looking out.

So the moral of this story is to carefully read the information on our website and to call Reservations at Fire Mountain if you have a special request or need or desire (I desire long range mountain views from the inside of my accommodation looking out) so that we can guide you to the proper result. Our desire is for you to have the amenities that you desire in your accommodation and to have an experience that exceeds your expectations. The main reason we have top notch staff is to assist when you have a concern or need. In this situation a simple request to staff would have given these folks everything that they desired for their getaway

Also know that the Treehouse accommodations at Fire Mountain are extremely popular because they provide an excellent value as they are priced on the lower end of our rate range. They are our most basic accommodation and are very comfortable. The Laurel Treehouse was completely renovated during the winter months of 2013 and is the largest and most popular Treehouse accommodation at Fire Mountain.

We extend an invitation for you to be our guests and to allow us the opportunity and privilege to exceed your expectations with a fantastic mountaintop getaway experience at Fire Mountain here in the Southern Highlands! We very much look forward to having the privilege of welcoming these folks back to Fire Mountain as repeat guests!

We stayed in the Nantahala Room for a couple of days and had an absolutely amazing time. The views are gorgeous, the staff is incredibly attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious. They gave us great recommendations for things to do in the area like ruby mining, and directed us to the must-see waterfalls nearby. They also advised us of the best restaurants in the area and they did not disappoint! We will definitely be staying with them again for an even longer trip next time, it was truly a magical experience.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are fantastic!

What a nice retreat from busy Highlands - close enough to enjoy main street but far enough away to provide peace&quiet. We stayed two nights in the Hemlock cabin July 4-5, which was exactly as described on the website. Matthew provided a delightful reception and is a wealth of information.
We ate dinner at Rukas - wonderful, and Cyprus - very average.

We spent our 60th wedding anniversary at Fire Mountain in the "Red " Inn suite. Wow!
What a view of the mountains, constantly changing. We even enjoyed watching the occasional rain clouds descend on the mountains as far away as four ranges.

The staff was outstanding, their resources more than adequate for information of surrounding area events and activities.

The Breakfasts were delicious and very creative, the kitchen staff is as gracious as any place we have ever been, and

There is just no comparison with the attentiveness of Hiram and Mathew.

This is a must stay, if you like mountains and Highlands shops. Even the "food court" (Hiram's tag) in Dillard was special. We highly recommend Fire Mountain Inn, and will do it all again.

Room Tip: The "Red" suite is the best view

We spent 2 nights and enjoyed our Red Thunder accommodations. The property is magnificent. Breakfast were plentful, gourmet, fireside, candle lite and delicious. Highlands, nine miles away is a gem. We ate dinner at Cyprus and Rukas. Both were outstanding. You will enjoy your stay at Fire Mountain.

We loved the Fire Mountain experience. Given our hectic overly connected lifestyle, we were looking for a retreat in the mountains with just the right mixture of luxury and solitude. What we encountered was a fabulous room ( red thunder) with superb furnishings, art work, bedding and an " I never want to go back to the real world" view off the private deck. There is a nice balance of personal service if needed with a complete respect for your privacy if you don't. The resort is about 8-9 miles outside of the Highlands, NC. This is a very upscale mountain community with an unusually high concentration of fine dining establishments. We had 3 really great dinners and there were several additional highly touted restaurants we did not get to try. There are a multitude of outdoor activities within a 5-30 minute drive. We enjoyed several hikes to big mountain vistas as well as several waterfall experiences, a quant mountain lake picnic and a easy canoe trip down the Little Tennessee River.

Hiram, Matthew and staff provide a wonderful breakfast each morning, that we chose to enjoy on our private balcony overlooking the Appalachian Mountains. They were able to provide expert opinion on appropriate outings during our stay. The resort has a small but impressive art gallery and a nice deck to enjoy a glass of wine.

So pack your hiking boots and a couple bottles of wine and leave your computers, phones and troubles at home and go and enjoy the Fire Mountain experience.

Room Tip: Red Thunder. But not if I am going to be there cause I want it!!!
