“Must not miss their programs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

A wide variety is offered from Thursday night lectures on local interest subjects to special childrens' programs. Walk through the botanical gardens at your leisure and learn about native plants, what attracts butterflies and Native American uses.

“Small, but well designed botanical gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

No visit to Highlands would be complete without walking through the Highlands Botanical Gardens. The walks show off the diversity of mountain environments from a lake with water lillies to a small waterfall to a rhododendron walk. They also have a small nature center with lectures on Thursday evening and a garden that displays Cherokee medicinal and food plants. In all, it is one of the nicest ways to spend an hour in Highlands.

The naturalist there took out a gentle snake to show some basic snake anatomy to my daughter. She had been protesting our visit when I suggested it, but ended up thanking me for insisting....
