“A magical step back in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2009

Walking into 1812 on the Perquimans is like walking into a different era. The house has been in the same family since it was built in 1812 and it retains much of the original character (and furniture). The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable but what really makes a stay special is the hospitality. We were sadly unable to meet the owner but were entertained (literally since she insisted on playing the piano and singing) by "Miss Blue" who regaled us with stories of the old South and had us laughing till we fell off our chairs. She also cooks a formidable breakfast! Highly recommended for anyone who likes to stay somewhere with character.

This B & B is the most wonderful spot in a country setting. The old farm house is just fabulous, with antiques everywhere and family portraits and photos all over. The hosts, Nancy and Pete ,are the true meaning of Southerners, with the best southern hospitality you can imagine. We had a great time! They have bikes to ride down the soybean field to get to the river, which you can see from the Balconies, or you can drive your car, or a 5 minute walk. They have 2 canoes for your use on the Perquimanns river, and a long pier to just relax on the water. The house is set alone by itself on the farm, so peace and quiet can be had here. The breakfast was just great with all the fixings of a North Carolina breakfast, Grits of course! A must stay for a great stay in a great house with great accomodations and great hosts and all with a quiet setting!

Most interesting home. No better breakfast anywhere. Fascinating hosts.
Fastidious housekeeping is not here.

We had our wedding reception there, and several of our guests stayed there. The owners, Peter and Nancy Rascoe are great. If you've never spent much time with a real southern lady, you must stay here. She really know her local history, too. Rates reasonable $80-$110, excellent southern breakfast (pickled herring and fried green tomatoes), plus access to the river. Very quiet and out of the way.
