Civil War Reenactment: A full weekend of encampment. Lots to see, various suttlers have authentic and replica wares to sell. Local vendors with great food. Love the Winslow family chicken stew... will warm your heart, too.
Gorgeous river bluff setting, over the awesome Roanoke River.
Take the whole family, and be prepared to walk. Sturdy shoes or boots, and count on getting them muddy. Take a supply of water. Funds raised support maintaining this local historic site.

Culminates in a huge Sunday afternoon battle reenactment.
Saturday is a great day with music, dancing, food, and more.
My children first went there with an elementary school group, and I drove a car-load of kids. After returning home, we reorganized ourselves, and went back for the evening music and dancing, and more chicken stew!
Wish my sons were still around here to go. My husband hopes that his granddaughters would join us at least one year... this year maybe?
