Stayed a few hours at this place over family weekend for ECU. It was the only place in town with a room available and now I see why. We checked in late due to travel time. Found out there is not an employee on site after 10pm usually and then not again until 10am. The one and only good thing about this place was there was an employee still at the office at 10:20pm Friday night. Got our keys and to the room we went. First impressions of room, OMG what is that smell. Terrible, musty, old, not clean smell. Our two children asked over and over what the smell was and if something had died in the room. Luckily the front desk person had not left, we reported the problem and she handed my fiance 2 bottles of spray deodorizer, ok great we will try it. Off to the store we went to get last minutes items. Got back to room and to bed we went, with terrible smell still in the room. The abruptly around 1:15am, we were awoken by my fiance and another friend of ours saying we had to go. There were roaches in the room and some type of caterpillar bug ni the bathroom. Oh yeah and the smell is still there and not getting any better. Now it is late, or early however you want to look at it. My fiance and our friend had been on the phone calling every hotel in Greenville and we were lucky enough to have found one with cancellations that we were able to get 2 rooms at 2am. So we got the kids up, because I refuse to allow my children to have to sleep in a room where roaches are, not going to happen.
So we got out of roach motel. Called the next day to inform the staff of the nights events, but of course had to wait until after 10m becuase that is when staff come in. I was able to voice concern for the room odor, the roaches and that we had to leave due to this and would like to speak to the manager about this. His name is Kurt Davis, and he was not available until Monday morning. We did learn that Mr. Davis was going to credit our account back for the issues we had at his hotel. Now we booked two nights and stayed a total of about 3 hours keep in mind.
Once we checked our account we saw only one night was credited back, so I spoke with Mr. Davis and voiced my displeasure at this and asked why both nights were not credited back as I had to move my family at 1am out of his hotel because of the bugs. Mr. Davis told me he only found ground beetles in the room and he nor anyone else could control ground beetles getting into the room. As for the smell he said the hotel provides spray for the smell because of the bathrooms. I went back and forth with him about the bugs and told him I was not going to have my family stay in hotel with bugs and it was not acceptable to say they could not control what comes into their hotel. Mr. Davis then said, "you need to understand sir, we are in the south and we can't help ground beetles". Well Mr. Davis, as I told you on the phone, I too am from the south and I have never had an issue with ground beetles bugs, roaches, whatever you choose to call them, before. At first he was unwilling to credit back both nights, but when I pushed the issue about learning this was not the first issue his hotel has had with bugs and asking him if he would allow his family and children to sleep in a hotel with bugs, he reluctantly said he would take care of this. I am waiting to see if there is another credit on my account this week. I would suggest if serioulsy considering this hotel, to stop considering it. Staff when we checked in were helpful, Mr. Davis, was finally willing to make it right, but this place is nothing short of a roach motel with a horrible odor. One positive about the entire experience, I now know where never to stay again. I do expect some type of response from the hotel regarding this review,as they usually try and apologize for the stay, but really there is no need. When you repeatedly say there is nothing you can do as a hotel to stop roaches.....that all the response you need.
