“Beautiful lakehouse, comfortable and charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2010

I have stayed here a couple of times with friends. The setting is magnificent, with a large lawn, boat dock, and a fantastic deck overlooking the lake. The lakehouse is so comfortable with numerous well appointed bedrooms and a large sun room that's great for meals or just hanging out. Highly recommended!

“Breathtakingly beautiful alpine-like lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2009

This lake is the highest lake east of the Mississippi River. The altitude is over 3400 feet. The water quality is excellent. A great destination for boating, skiing, fishing, picnics and general peace and tranquility. Jackson County has a campground right on the lake for you outdoor folks. It's called Ralph Andrews Park.

There are over 27 miles of shoreline and from the dam of the lake you have a terrific view of the Blue Ridge mountains.

This lake was built in 1938 as part of the TVA project to provide electricity for rural areas. It was a well kept secret for many years. Now it's surrounded with beautiful summer homes. But the public has access via boat ramps provided by the county.

If you enjoy the water, it's definitely worth coming to. You don't have to bring your boat as there are marinas here where you can rent them. Signal Ridge Marina and Mountain View Marine can help you out. There's also a horseback riding stables nearby called Arrowmont Stables.
