“Cozy mountain top cabin get-away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2009

Very new, very clean and very cozy cabin. Very nice: "modern rustic" feel. Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, quiet and private. We decided on a Tuesday night to book for the following weekend, and we got our confirmation email the next morning. A very pleasant location, with it's own little grass-covered hill that's great for kids' playtime, as well as convenient, easy hiking trails and wonderful vistas nearby. The site is only a short drive from restaurants, and the full kitchen made meal preps easy with the food we brought along. Drawbacks: it's not cheap, and it took a little phone tag to get the information to open the cabin. But those were minor issues. This was a relaxing, rustic retreat. Parents and kids alike enjoyed our get-away, and would certainly recommend this cabin to others.

Lovely setting in the woods, and just off the Parkway, very close to the Trading Post and several great mountain shops and resturants. We loved the back porch on the Watson Cabin and the idea of campfires at night with comfortable seating with the wood supplied! It was justic but also had a huge jetted tub for relaxing. They supplied everything but the food for our three night stay and we found pleanty of good resturants in near-by Glendale Springs. I did not check the "service" rating above because it was self check-in and we never had to see anyone, which added to our mountain escape feeling!

We really enjoyed our stay, the place was spotless and very roomy. The deck off the main bedroom was a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the mountain air.

I was there with my 2 college-age daughters. We enjoyed the location and the cabin. The ants were quite bothersome (it was early june). The cabin's kitchen was quite sparsely furnished. It wasn't really set up for people that wanted to really cook. I'd advise you to bring your own cutting board, knives, mixing bowls, etc.

This is a wonderful, family-friendly lodge just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina's Ashe County. The facility itself is very simple -- don't expect fancy or upscale -- with a homey and comfortable lodge and a number of small cabins. We have stayed several times in the "family suite," which includes three bedrooms and two baths along a hallway. This has been a very good arrangement for us as a family traveling with young children, and the cost has been quite reasonable.

What makes this place very special are its owners, Jerry and Sue Davenport. They go out of their way to make guests feel welcomed and at home. A delicious and ample breakfast is served each morning, and Jerry and Sue always offer late-arriving guests an evening snack before bed. Staying at Mountain View Lodge and Cabins feels like visiting a favorite aunt and uncle, as Jerry and Sue always make a point of getting acquainted with guests. They are especially kind to children, providing videos and hot chocolate, to name a couple of nice extras. Our boys love going there.

If you are looking for something fancy or full of fine antiques and high-end amenities, this is probably not your place. Also, it's probably not the place if you are looking for lots of privacy (unless you choose the cabins). But if you are a family looking for a comfortable B&B where children are warmly welcomed, this is the place to choose for clean, reasonably-priced, locally-owned, not corporatized lodging along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
