“A crowned jewel in the mountains!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2009

What a delightful, historic, and "home away from home" place to stay! Jane is as delightful a host as one could hope for with a flair for breakfast and a historian, par excellence! The ambience of this lofty southern estate is elegant, yet homey offering to us a kingsize featherbed and old charm furnishings. If you are looking for an peaceful, comfortable, elegant, yet affordable place to stay, the Inn at Glen Alpine is it! It also is a beautiful setting and accomdation for weddings and family celebrations. Perhaps one we may enjoy in the future...

Great breakfasts and wonderful ambiance. Innkeeper was very friendly and helpful. Convenient to beautiful mountains with parks and incredible views. Lovely evenings on the porch even during thunder and lightning storms.

Jane is a warm and wonderful host and her homemade breakfast and cookies are not to be missed! If you're looking for a B&B with southern charm and a warm welcome this is the place for you. Theres a great history to the house that Jane will be happy to tell you and she even has photographs. Every room is absolutely beautifully restored and decorated with lovely little trinkets. Thank you so much Jane for a lovely stay, we'll be back!

I honestly cannot say enough good things about the Inn at Glen Alpine! Everything met our expectations and went beyond. But you have to know 4 things about my husband and I as travelers to understand this review:

1. When we go on vacation, we hate to stay at hotels with door banging all night and people running up and down the hallways.

2. I have horrific allergies and a number of things set them off, such as old moldy A/C units, cats, smoke, some foods, etc. So, my allergies dictate where/when/how we stay at a place. (By the way, her dog she mentions on the website, Skyla, did not bother my allergies at all. She was right, Skyla is hypo-allergenic.)

3. I am a germ-o-phobe and a clean freak. If a place is not clean, we will not stay there.

4. We want peace, quiet, and serenity when we travel, hence the word vacation.

This bed and breakfast met our expectations and needs, and then exceeded them! Everything was perfect. The home was lovely; it was a picture from a world gone by. The home is immaculately clean and well cared for. The attention to detail is still prevalent. The original wood in-laid floors have been restored and maintained so they look like they were just laid yesterday. There is a never ending porch with a view like no other. One morning we just sat there, saying nothing, just enjoying the serenity and peace of the location. And there is a "garage" out back that made my architect husband look more than once.

Our room was lovely; we stayed in the Spa Suite. Chocolates on the table, sheer curtains that made you think of a Civil War age movie, incredibly tall ceilings, a king bed which was very comfortable, a jacuzzi tub we had to relax in after hiking the near by 80 ft. waterfall, huge windows, even a towel warmer, made our stay that much more memorable. We wished we had more time to just hang out and enjoy the room. It was perfect. And being on the first floor, you'd think you'd hear people up and about...nope...we heard nothing, and we even slept in late in the mornings.

And talking about mornings, the breakfasts are to die for!
If you stay there more than a few days, I swear you will gain 100 pounds! The Innkeeper would ask us every night what we wanted the next day for breakfast. There was honestly no limit to what she would make (except liver or something like that). Everything was served on china place settings with pressed linens. And at night, as if she did not spoil us enough at breakfast, there were cookies. Very tasty!

The best part of the whole thing was, without a doubt, the Innkeeper, Ms. Jane Hoggs. She was so welcoming, helpful, and caring. She helped us plan our days, gave us advice about where to visit and eat, provided menus for us to peruse, told us about fun night life things to do, gave us a tour of the entire home, sat and chatted with us, enjoyed just hanging out with us in the mornings during breakfast or during a cup of hot chocolate in the back sunroom, and genuinely cared about us and if we were having a good time. She was even worried about us when we got stuck in a hail storm and tornado in a nearby city!

Overall, this bed and breakfast was impeccable. It met every expectation we had and every "requirement" that needed to be met. It was clean, it was quiet, it was relaxing, and it was the perfect break that we needed. We went away completely relaxed and telling all of our friends about it. This is the way a vacation should be and it was made 100 times better because we stayed at the Inn at Glen Alpine. The only complaint we had was that we had to leave!
