“SO GOOD WE STAYED AN EXTRA DAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2011

We were on our way to Virginia. Planned to stay one night at Glade Valley B & B, then move on. The afternoon we arrived, our hosts, Margaret and Jim, welcomed us with homemade lemonade and fresh baked cookies. After talking a while, we asked about local golf courses. Jim recommended one nearby. We decided to give the course a try the next morning, then move on. We changed our mind after breakfast....the most wonderful waffles, scones, scrambled egg & bacon casserole, and all the trimmings, you'll ever eat. We asked if we could stay another night. FORTUNATELY, they had a vacancy available. Our room was large. Our bed was king sized and very comfortable. The whole place was very clean. After another wonderful breakfast the next morning, with a different but equally delicious menu, we moved on. If you ever travel the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Virginia/North Carolina border, or are by any chance near Sparta, NC, don't miss staying with Jim and Margaret at the Glade Valley Bed & Breakfast in Glade Valley, North Carolina.

Room Tip: They have four rooms and a cabin. Our room, Mauna Loa, had a jacuzzi tub, which my wife enjoyed ver...

This cozy bed and breakfast is a hidden treasure in the beautiful NC mountains. The attention to detail, from the home baked cookies and lemonade upon arrival and the water and soft drinks in the refrigerator available throughout the day, to the myriad of travel brochures on hand made this one of the best b&b's we have ever stayed at. Margaret and Jim made us feel right at home and were extremely helpful in guiding us to restaurants and area attractions. Margaret's fresh, made from scratch breakfasts were scrumptious. The rockers on the front porch were inviting and relaxing. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is THE place for you. We stayed in the Yosemite room and it was perfect - jacuzzi tub, ceiling fan, fireplace, and no TV! The only negative thing we experienced during our stay here was the fact that we had to leave.

Stayed at Glade Valley for first time at a Bed & Breakfast. Did not know what to expect and was immediately made to feel like family. Had the roam of the house. Nice cool afternoon and the rocking chairs on the porch were very restful. Breakfast was great and met several other couples. was a very good get away.

Room Tip: all rooms are great

This beautiful chalet style home is nestled next to the Blue Ridge Parkway near Sparta North Carolina. The property includes several room options as well as a cabin in the woods. Upon arrival, we were greeted first by Hunter the friendly dog. We next met Jim who came out to greet us and usher us in to meet Margaret and enjoy delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies and lemonade.

After a short tour of the house we relaxed in our room. Jim gave us some tips for dinner in town. We ate at a great Mexican place where the food was authentic and cheap. We returned and spent the better part of the evening relaxing on the porch conversing with two other couples who were there for the night.

Breakfast was nothing short of incredbile! Too many choices to mention. But the homemade sweet rolls, cheesy grits, sausage gravy and country ham were worth the price of admission. We had more stimulating conversation over breakfast. Jim and Margaret were attentive, keeping our coffee cups full and filling whatever other needs we had. The morning was over all to quickly. With hugs all around we all promised to keep in touch.

This was everything a B&B should be. Jim and Margaret were attentive but not intrusive. They are warm and friendly, and seem to truly enjoy opening their home to, and making friends with, strangers. The view is beautiful, the location is secluded but accesible to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The food is wonderful. The rooms are creatively decorated with names and themes taken from National Parks. We stayed in the Denali room.

We definitely plan to return. Next time we hope to stay in the cabin. Located less than 100 yards from the main house it has the feel of being in the middle of the woods miles from civilization. With a loft bedroom, fire place in the living room and full kitchen, it is the kind of place you would want to go and write the great American novel.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for one of the rooms with a jacuzzi tub. As mentioned we were in the Denali room w...

Set in the beautiful North Carolina mountains, off the beaten path, lies a beautiful, welcoming, and relaxing homeplace to Margaret and Jim Connor. They are the perfect hostesses, welcoming and making everyone feel at home. We stayed with them one night and then continued our journey into Virginia. The night with them was by far the best. We would whole heartedly repeat and recommend others to stay with them as well. The breakfast was incredible. Margaret went above and beyond in the variety of dishes she served and the presentation was beautiful too. It was delicious! The house and grounds are so peaceful. A perfect anniversary trip for us! They have a wonderful cozy cabin by a stream not far from the main house , which Jim showed us around the inside. We would love to come back again and just happen to be snowed in! I can't say enough good things about this place. Bed was comfortable. Nicely appointed rooms and living areas. The one complaint was that since it is a log cabin you can hear the water when people are taking a shower. But this is minor and would not affect our reason to recommend to others. Yall are doing a great job! Keep doing what you're doing because that is great!

This is the house that Margaret and Jim Connor built and what a wonderful home they have. This was the first of our American 'Tardis' experiences because the space inside the house was stunning. Jim greeted us at our car and helped with our luggage. Our room and bed were both huge and beautiful - also clean, quiet and comfortable. The house walls were hung with quilts made by Margaret or her ancestors and the structure of the house needs to be seen to be believed. The house was full with other guests and we were all made to feel welcome. The morning breakfast was the largest early get together we have experienced apart from family Christmas at home in the UK. We had a wondeful stay and would thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay especially if you are travelling along he Blue Ridge Parkway.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet - we did not see the other rooms.
