“Excellent historical site for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

We visited on a Friday in early November. No crowds at all. Outstanding tour guide took us through the original home there that the Union used as a field hospital as well as recreated slave quarters. The open field, monuments and graves give you a sobering feel for what happened there without being gory. The film in the visitor center was good too. I'd allow at least 90 minutes for your visit if possible. This is a superb place to educate kids about the Civil War!

A very good experience and the site has been kept as near the historical era as possible. I had a good learning experience from this visit.

I would recommend this historic site

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

Was surprised by how remote this site was, but thoroughly enjoyed my visit. The tour of the Harper house was great and the guide was super knowledgable. He was careful to distinguish between historical fact and assumptions that are made. I really enjoyed the 15 minute intro film.

“Step back in time ....to the......Civil War”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

This is a Well preserved area of the history of a 3 day battle that took place at Bentonville. You can listen to a short movie that begins the tour, the guide is very knowledgeable of the family that lived in the house that the Union took over for those three days and made it into a makeshift hospital and their quarters. Jeff was our guide and tells you what happened to this family before.....during......and after the war. The memorial is near the front entrance but you can drive your car through the 14 mile battlefield and experience the chilling 3-day battle at your own pace. A must see it's history.

“A moving walk thru history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is an historical treasure hidden away and off the beaten path, yet an easy ride from Raleigh. Knowing I was walking on the same ground of the last major battle of the Civil War and where Sherman was fought by General Johnston, as well as touring the Harper House which served as a field hospital, really brought the reality of it to life. This is a very remarkable site and everyone should take their children to see it. There is usually more activities during the month of March when the battle was fought.
