I arrived in Elizabeth City after driving over 250 miles with a reservation in hand for the Hampton Inn (a few blocks from the Holiday Inn Express). Upon arriving at the Hampton Inn, they refused to honor the rate I had booked at, treated me rudely and had no concern that I was a single woman travelling alone. They tried to up my rate $30. I cancelled the reservation and went to the Holiday Inn Express.
I explained my situtation to the gentleman (Mister William) who worked very hard to find me a room that was close to the government per diem (I was on travel orders for the government.) He was not able to meet the per diem but was able to give me a suite for $80.00 per night. My other option was to travel to Norfolk. I accepted the room and was treated as if I was family. They expressed concern at how I was treated at the Hampton Inn. Let me know if I needed anything to let them know, offered directions, restraunt suggestions. They went above and beyond what one would can expect. Both mornings I had a pleasant conversation with the people who work there during breakfast.
Checkout was quick and efficient. Amazingly they apologized for the people at Hampton Inn.
Highly recommend this hotel. The rooms are clean and roomy. Could barely hear any sounds from other rooms and all rooms have indoor corridors.
