“Better than expected, service was very friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2014

I had read mixed review and had mediocre expectations. They friendly staff won me over, food was not the best I have ever had but overall very good considering the low prices. Beer was cold and the staff was very helpful. We sat inside since they had a large party earlier on the deck, but the outside seating looked ideal.

“If you are looking for Seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

We love seafood and this seemed to be the place to go in Elizabeth City. Located on the waterfront, with a great view. First we ate dinner, returned for lunch the following day and then in the evening the same day. Very good and varied menu-prepared and seasoned very well. My wife and I are very choosy, so it has to be good to get this rating. The service is a little slow, so don't go here is you are in a hurry. For us, we were happy to sit for a while and enjoy the view. Oh, and the price was very reasonable too. I am not an expert on what's available in Elizabeth City, but my brother has lived here for several years and eats out regularily. He rates this as one of the top restaurants in Elizabeth City.

“Good food, reasonable prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

My husband and I ate lunch here on a slow rainy Tuesday. Started with their special soup, spicy corn crab. Very good. Oyster special for $5.95 was very good. Not huge portions but sized right for lunch. My husband had the grilled tuna wrap which was served with fries. Service was friendly and prompt. Would definately return here.

“Good food, reasonable prices, and a great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

The food and service is good, the prices are reasonable, the view overlooking the Pasquotank River is great, and weather permitting, you can dine on the outdoor deck. They have daily lunch specials, of which my favorite is fried oysters on Tuesdays.

“OK food, served in a scenic but tired setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

I've eaten here off and on for the roughly 20 years since this place has been in business. During that time, it has changed owners several times, with mixed results. I recently visited with my wife for a midweek dinner.

We decided on the two for $25 special, which includes an artichoke dip appetizer and your choice of an 8 oz ribeye, shipyard (ie, shrimp&scallop) pasta, or shrimp creole. The dip was fabulous, with just the right amount of garlic, and covered in Parmesan cheese. The steak was supposed to be med-rare, but was closer to rare. (It was cool to the touch.). A measly 3/4 in. cut accounts for a lot of the problem--a steak that thin is hard to cook correctly without overcooking. The shrimp creole was very good.

The restaurant is located in a renovated/added-on older building, with a huge pier/deck area over the river. There are several other businesses in the building. The deck is popular in the summer for parties, wedding receptions, etc. The river views are beautiful. The restaurant shares bathrooms down the hall with the other businesses, which is a problem. Unfortunately, the local homeless/indigent population wanders through the halls, and have accessed the bathrooms, so the comments about the dirty bathrooms are true.

Parking is either in the tiny lot just north, or in the public park parking lots to the north and south. The south lot can be dicey, with rowdy teenagers on the weekends or sketchy people hanging around during the week. This place may indeed need Restaurant Impossible as others have suggested, but the city needs some major urban renewal first. No matter what the restaurant does, they are fighting a losing battle when patrons have to wade through vagrants to: a) park, b) walk inside, and c) go to the bathroom.
