“Great Place, Great Food, Great Prices!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. The food was oustanding and fast, the service friendly, and the prices very low -- $28 for three people including appetizer, entrees, drinks and refills, and dessert. Amazing!

“Good, not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012 via mobile

I am a long time customer. Tres Amigos had always been my favorite Mexican food, until they moved to their new location. Though the servers are still awesome (high quality service is what makes the restaurant), the food quality seems to have slipped since the move. I'll still come back--but my expectations have been lowered.

“Typical small town NC Mexican”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2012

This place has moved. It is now on NC 344 (Halstead Extended) near the IHOP and Fairfield Inn. The new place is nice, but they put the outside tables on the side of the restaurant closest to the road. Warning: I grew up in south Texas, so I am a Mexican food snob. This place was about like the fast food and chain TexMex places I grew up with. But it is nothing special. I had the chili rellenos, which were OK. My son had the beef fajitas which were enough to feed two people, but no better than what I make at home. My wife had a seafood burrito, which was some broiled seafood with a bland white sauce stuffed into a tortilla. And the salsa is the same lame dressed up ketchup they serve at all the other mexican places in all the other little towns in NC. As usual with mexican places that appeal to gringos-too much salt and not enough heat. The prices are reasonable for what you get. This place is very popular with the Coasties and Navy folks who don't tend to be as demanding as the permanent residents. It is worth a try, but the new locale hasn't really improved the food.
