“Beautiful historic house & gracious hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

My wife and I have stayed at the Grice-Fearing House B&B on several occasions over the years, most recently this May. We love Elizabeth City and feel this is the best choice for a B&B, by far. The historic nature of the house is worth a visit in itself. The house was built in 1798, the year before George Washington died! The renovations to the house have been meticulously done to preserve the property. The owners, Georgene and Vidal Falcon, told us that in order to insure the renovations did not take away from the historic value; they had used an architect specializing in historic renovations.

There are two suites offered and we chose the king suite. The suite included a sitting room, separated from the bedroom by a door, which allowed me to watch TV while my wife took a nap. The suite had amenities that provided everything we would want -- thick towels, fluffy bathrobes, a large flat-screen TV, DVDs and CDs for our use, ceiling fans, and my wife’s favorite, a large Jacuzzi tub to soak in. Coffee/tea was delivered to the hall outside the suite each morning, prior to breakfast. Georgene provided homemade warm cookies at night!

Breakfast was my favorite part of our stay. This time we were served eggs Benedict one day and wonderful blueberry buttermilk pancakes the next. Breakfast was served with unique fruit dishes, and delicious coffeecakes and muffins (my favorite was lemon ricotta). The breakfast table was beautifully set with Waterford crystal, china, and sterling silver.

One of the reasons that we chose this B&B is the fact that, with only two suites, we are always guaranteed to have either a private or semi-private B&B!

When not in our suite, we had the use of well appointed parlor, library, and sunroom, too! Georgene and Vidal are both very accommodating and hospitable hosts. We will be back again!

From the initial phone call to make a reservation (with 1 hour's notice!) to our check out, Georgene & Vidal were welcoming ; the perfect hosts. We were greeted warmly, offered a glass of wine and shown this beautiful historic home. Our guest suite was comfortable and as modern as needed, with flat-screen TV & a needed Wi-Fi connection. Their recommended dinner restaurant was exactly what we wanted. A delicious snack awaited us on our return and after a relaxing night's sleep, fresh coffee was delivered to our room. Breakfast was to die for--Yummy We highly recommend a stay here--we hope to return. (Kathy & Dave -NJ)

I had a wonderful and relaxing time thanks to Vidal and Georgene! The room was comfortable and peaceful, the breakfast most excellent and, as host, Vidal and Georgene are second to none.

Thanks for the great conversation, generous and warm welcome and nice memories.

Sincerely,
Scott

We are so thankful that we found the Grice-Fearing House. It has set the bar very high. The food was A-1 and the atmosphere in the house was calming. The service was excellent. The owners made us feel right at home. We enjoyed it tremendously.

The owners, Georgene and Vidal are exceptional hosts and will treat you like royalty. Excellent food and a comfortable and history-laden home with plenty of space and modern amenities. I've travelled worldwide and have always enjoyed the smaller settings of B&B's, pensions, guesthouses etc. I'd rank my stay at Grice-Fearing as one of the best experiences with those types of venues. Why stay out on the Highway 17 sprawl/strip when you can have this level of service and comfort and be in the center of the town?

We were part of the group of five that stayed at Grice-Fearing House in May. What a wonderful start to our OBX week! Vidal and Georgene were welcoming and personable from the first offer of a drink when we arrived. The home is lovely and comfortable. Dessert awaited us after dinner - certainly an added bonus. Breakfast was delicious, elegantly served, and enjoyed in leisurely conversation. An easy walk to other points of interest in Elizabeth City. May become part of our annual sojourn!

My husband and I have stayed in many B & B's, but this one was very special. Vidal and Georgene were gracious hosts. The house is the oldest in Elizabeth City but it has been lovingly and tastefully restored. No Victorian frou-frou, just elegant and comfortable rooms. Our party of 5 took over all the available rooms. We spent an hour or two in the afternoon on the front second floor porch drinking complimentary wine and beer. With our hosts' advice, we explored the town and had a wonderful dinner at Sydney's. When we returned to Grice-Fearing house Vidal and Georgene presented us with a delicious home-made dessert and invited us to sit in their garden.
Our breakfast was also top notch. If you're passing through Elizabeth City - stay here!
