“Best B and B experience ever!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

The Grice-Fearing House is the best bed and breakfast experience we have had in over 25 years of staying in B and B's. Georgene and Vidal Falcon's friendly welcome made us feel like old friends immediately. This was only the beginning of their hospitality which was reflected in the immaculate, comfortable suite with its king bedroom, sitting room and spacious bath as well as their entire home. Every detail was tastefully provided. The Grice-Fearing House has been restored with impeccable taste and care. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the elegant parlor, the library with its cheery fireplace and the sunroom with a garden view. Breakfasts are served in the elegant dining room. Each day of our six-day stay we were treated to absolutely delicious gourmet three-course breakfasts. Early morning coffee was right outside our door as were each evening's sweet treats! Our conversations with Georgene and Vidal at the table or other occasions were a highlight of each day. Elizabeth City was centrally located to explore and enjoy a variety of day trips- Edenton, Outer Banks, Virginia Beach, Dismal Swamp as well as immerse ourselves in the life of EC. The Museum of the Albemarle is a gem as are the galleries and shops in the downtown. We were fortunate to participate in the monthly First Friday ArtWalk. Everywhere we were greeted with true Southern hospitality and charm. It is truly wonderful to know that the Falcons and their home await us for another special visit, We only wish they were closer!!

We travelled recently from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia to Edenton, NC for the Christmas house tour. Traveling with another couple we chose to stay overnight in NC and spend some time catching up with our friends. After looking at the map and Tripadvisor it looked like the Grice-Fearing House would suit our needs to a tee. Fortunately their two suites were available on the night we chose. After a quick and easy check in we headed down to Edenton and had a delightful time there. (Note - we plan to go back for the spring garden tour.) We then returned to the Grice-Fearing House for a restful night's sleep. In the morning the coffee was waiting outside our door and then at the appointed time we headed downstairs for what was to prove an absolutely delightful breakfast. Vidal and Georgene put out a delicious repast in an elegant manner and of course my wife announced that this is the manner to which she should always be accustomed. We spent a wonderful morning with our hosts and the conversation was animated as we compared travel experiences and plans. Note that they have just two suites. We were two couples traveling. We had our own private B&B! All four of us commented that this may be the best B&B experience we have ever had, and there have been many of them. Everything was spot-on!
For anyone traveling in the area we would highly recommend it. For others living in the Hampton Roads area it makes a great, and easy, get away.

The Grice-Fearing House is a wonderful historic home that has been beautifully restored and our three days there was the perfect B&B experience. Our suite was roomy and comfortable and we felt right at home but the best part of the stay was visiting and talking with Vidal and Georgene. Instead of feeling like customers, it was like we were staying a few days with old friends. When it comes to the food, Georgene has the gift. Every breakfast was special!! Next time we are in Elizabeth City we will definitely be staying with our friends at the Grice-Fearing House.

The Grice-Fearing House B & B is one of a kind. If you are looking for elegance, comfort, privacy, great food, cleaniness, wonderful owners, and just an all around phenomenal experience, this is the place for you. This was our 6th time staying at the Grice-Fearing House B & B and I have to say that it just keeps getting better if that is even possible. We were so pleased the very 1st time that we stayed that we have gone back year after year and it is still absolutely wonderful! The view from the 2nd floor balcony is just awesome! This is our one get-away that we so look forward to and we know that it would be the same for you too! Check it out!

Room Tip: They have two rooms and the "blue room" has the jetted hot tub in the bathroom!

Gayle and Keith, we so appreciate your very kind words about our B&B. Through the years, we've gotten to know you better and better, and now consider you friends. Can't wait until next Homecoming!

We lucked out and got a return call from the GFH, left a message with others as their phone was not answered. Turns out we stayed at a very remarkable and elegant B&B with wonderful hosts that were engaging and enjoyable to talk to. We had a great breakfast (she has some award-winning recipes) and met another couple that we enjoyed. We'll definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: The queen room upstairs was very comfortable and spacious

Loved the room, food and innkeepers. Room was very comfortable. The sitting room was also a bonus. Would certainly stay again. The view from the upstairs porch was nice & relaxing in the rocking chairs.

We have children in the area and stayed at the Grice-Fearing House on our recent visit. A treat all around!! We have stayed in B&Bs throughout the country and think this is the best we've found. It is comfortable, beautifully restored, conveniently located, and the proprietors are warm and engaging. We plan to stay again on return visits!
