“Another great Christmas weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

We stay at the hall each year and take over the whole place. The accommodation is vast and yes imparts is tired and needs some tic but it's a big place and Anthony is a one man band, please give him time. It must also cost a fortune for the upkeep never mind the ongoing maintenance!

We had a smashing time and are already looking forward to next year.

We visited recently for a few days away. The man who showed us round was very helpful and friendly. Good value for money and a beautiful location. A bit of a drive to Buxton etc but we had a car and enjoyed the trip so that was fine. The place is spotless. Very pleasant accommodation and grounds, we would definitely recommend.

Just back from 18th annual stay at Hargate Hall. Fantastic place to stay - great for walking but also just for getting together. Love the newly refurbished Eyam. Bathroom is amazing. Great job Anthony and Julie. See you next year!!

The hall looked wonderful from the outside but the apartment we stayed in was very disappointing. It would not take much to improve the standards some tlc would certainly be beneficial. Poor lighting, broken fire grate, flat pillows and chipped paintwork and plates. Would recommend if you go in the autumn, winter or early spring that you take warm clothes. Owners very hard to contact apart from by phoning continually. Several people arriving asked us about what they needed to do. We could not help!! The whole place gives the impression it is just not cared for.

We visited Hargate hall and usually I get the shocked "She has pink hair glare!," from owners; nothing of the sort here! we were made very welcome on arrival, our 2 girls forgot their winter coats so the owners wife lent us 2 good warm coats. We were given great ideas for a place to take the girls trick or treating which was a real treat for the girls since we arrived on halloween.
The room which we stayed in was the Bakewell room, very cosy, quirky and clean. Kids loved it and it also opened out onto an outdoor area. We stayed in the basement room which was charming and the girls slept in the mezzanine. The little arched bedroom area was so enchanting, it has actually given us inspiration for our next home move. Electric meter was very reasonable and the whole apartment was kept warm on about £6 for 4 days.
Overall, I can only say that we did not want to leave, the owners were some of the most welcoming people with lovely children and we are already planning on our next stay at Hargate Hall. Many thanks to the owners, you have a beautiful and welcoming place!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Bakewell room which comfortably sleeps 8 people. Mezzanine is great for kids.

What a lovely property to enjoy! We spent 3 nights in this charming spot, and recommend it for anyone wanting a base from which to explore this very beautiful area.
Our well behaved collie dog was welcomed and the lovely grounds were great for a quick exercise. If you want 5*, luxury and sophistication this is not your place. If you want well equipped, clean, comfortable accommodation in a characterful property, you've found it! It needs vast smounts of investment, to bring it up to perfection, but then would it be affordable?
Buxton has plenty of shopping for food as well as walking paraphernalia.... And some chic things! Coffee shops and rather a lot of charity shops! The pub food in villages around is very good. The welcome you'll be given by the locals is second to none!
