“An excellent choice of it fits your budget”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2012 via mobile

This was the second time my wife and I stayed at this lovely upscale inn on the edge of the Duke University campus. The deluxe king bed rooms are large and well appointed with a large comfortable bath area. The lobby is elegant with plenty of comfortable places to sit, read, or just people watching. The bar is a good choice for lunch and the upscale dining room is worth the splurge. If you like to walk it is maybe a mile or so to the famed chapel. Also a must see in the spring time is the Duke Gardens, although that is a long walk and most people would probably want to drive. There is plenty of parking at the gardens.

My family (2 adults, 1 teen and 1 tween) stayed here for my neice's wedding. We stayed in the family suite, which was very roomy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The biggest downside was the mattress, which was broken and fell to one side. Other than that, we loved it and would stay there again.

We came in a little after 3 and room was not ready and hotel was not sold out. They make dogs go thru back entrance and aren't allowed anywhere on the grounds. Even on eating patio! Beautiful golf course and great location to Duke but a little snooty and not extremely helpful or friendly.

Room Tip: Search for pricing at American Express travel. Got best rates there.

I had the pleasure of a brief stay at this elegant gem. It embodies southern hospitality in a sophisticated and elegant way. The restaurant (Fairview Room) was exceptionally good. I look forward to my next stay!

In my many trips to North Carolina, I've never had the opportunity to visit Duke University. A professional conference finally afforded me the chance and the Washington Duke Hotel was a great hotel choice. The grounds were beautiful, the food delicious, and a very kind staff made the overall experience a great one. While I don't golf, colleagues that do were disappointed that they couldn't rent clubs. I definitely hope to stay there again.

First time in the Durham area, and this property was the place to stay from what we were told. We pulled up to a friendly valet who directed us to the front desk. The Southern hospitality continued there, and when we got to our room, we were fully impressed. It was a very spacious 1 bedroom, with a separate sitting area. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was super quiet. It felt very luxurious to us, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the entire staff was charming. There is a first rate golf course on the property which lends additional charm. When we go back, we will once again stay here without a doubt.

This Inn exemplifies Southern hospitality. Every staff member had a smile and was ready to help you. THe decor was clean, classic and stately. I did not golf, but did use the driving range. They let my 6 year old on for free. Nice touch. The breakfast buffet was full of options (not cheap), the fine dining at night was inventive enough and used local suppliers (not cheap). THe pool and spa (indoors) was never crowded, and great for kids. Spotlessly clean. Fitness center was small, but clean, and had everything that you needed. I recommend eating off site to cut down on the overall expense. Durham has great options. We were visiting Duke and UNC. At Duke, the southern hospitality continued. The kids were bright, friendly and GREAT school spirit! WHen we asked for directions, the student would even walk us personally to our destination! See what $47,000 a year gets you!!!???

Room Tip: We got upgraded, as our original room was not ready. If going with kids, get the 2 bedroom suite, i...
