“The Museum of Life & Science shines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

I stumbled upon this gem during a weekend stay in Durham. What a fantastic resource!
Its really two museums in one. There is a large, indoor area, with interactive displays about severe weather, kids making contraptions, space travel, and a 2nd floor Science Lab. Do not miss the animals - they have owls, salamanders, baby alligators, muskrats, opossums, painted turtles, wood chucks and robins! The outside area consists of a large walking trail, with a lemur exhibit, wolves, bears, a farmland exhibit and - my favorite - the butterfly house! There is even a miniature train to take you around the site! The museum is fully interactive, and has an active interpretive program c/w staff to help answer questions! The museum caters to special events, like weddings, birthday parties, and corporate events - a great place for a special occasion, especially for kids!

You really were able to explore it all, Antonio8069! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with this community.

Our Museum certainly provides more than a day's worth of science exploration and learning. From live animals spanning from endangered species to common farmyard friends to the actual Mercury capsule which carried the first US animal into orbit there are enough experiences for guests of all ages to learn something new and discover something wonderful!

We hope you'll visit us again if you're back in the neighborhood!

“A Must for Families with Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

Any family with kids 12 and under will enjoy this place. An annual membership is best, so you can go back again and again, even for an hour or two. This is a pretty big place, with lots to do outdoors. Plan on spending 3-4 hours here. Don't miss out on the Science Lab on the 2nd Floor, as its hours are less than the Museum. Bigger kids will like the Contraptions exhibit. Smaller kids will like the 6 and Under area. Staff members are usually very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience, DinerDK!

If your family loves The Lab now, make sure to visit again between October 29 and November 2 as we take on Spooky Science! Whether it's making ghoulish bubbles or creating glow-in-the-dark goop to take home, these experiments will be sure to please.

Thanks again for sharing and thank you for your support of membership!

“Never seen a more engaging place for kids (and their lucky adult families)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

My daughter started going 25 years ago, and it is now truly a world class treasure. We have been taking my grandson since he was a baby, and at age 10, it is still his absolute favorite thing to do when they are in town. But what's great is that in addition to the pretty constant favorites (e.g., butterfly & insect house), they are always doing something new, and nearly everything is interactive. Adults love it just as much as kids. It is the BEST and I've never found another place as good in all the places I've visited

We're the lucky ones, Marycontrary!

It's so wonderful to hear from visitors who have been joining us for interactive science exploration for as long as your family has! While you are so right in that we have a wide variety of permanent and newly updated/rotating exhibits, don't miss out on Springs, Sprockets & Pulleys coming in November to the Museum. This interactive exhibit is all about the intersection where art meets science and we think your whole family will enjoy this brand new exhibit.

You can also participate in our #GetGerboized contest to win a chance at participating in a one-on-one workshop with Springs, Sprockets & Pulleys artist Steve Gerberich himself. All information on this amazing exhibit and accompanying contest can be found on the Museum website.

Thank you for taking the time to share your (lifelong) experiences with this community. You're one of our favorite kinds of guests!

We're so happy to hear you enjoyed your visit, Leo P!

Our animals are known performers and are highly entertaining; so glad you also were able to experience our indoor interactive science center. Whether it's taking time to explore math and movement, check out what's going on in our daily lab programming with local scientists or trying your hand at flipping and folding origami, there's something for everyone!

We definitely hope to see you again upon your next visit. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with this community; we love hearing what our visitors have to say!

“Our wedding venue”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

Our son and daughter-in-law chose this venue for their wedding last Saturday. It was absolutely beautiful despite the rain. They were married outside in the butterfly area and then we cocktailed in the insect and butterfly museum. We moved to the main Life and Science building for dinner, more cocktails and dancing. The venue is so interesting and gave our guests so many things to do and look at. The staff was amazing! Could not have asked for a lovelier evening.
