“Easily the best pizza in Durham”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

If you're a pizza fan, this is for you. Very, very good pizza with exciting toppings. In my opinion the best lunch location in the city. I came for lunch and had great service, everything about this place is awesome. Minimalist, modern decor, with a relaxed atmosphere, fun place to hang out for the whole family. I also highly recommend the aperol margarita, simply fantastic.

“Crust”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

Pizzeria Toro is pizza perfected. I can't state that strongly enough. Their crust is one of the most delicious things that I have ever eaten. I lived in Rome for a brief period, and I've eaten pizza all over the US. While Toro isn't strictly traditional, its the spirit of what pizza should be. I feel its in the same vein as how good Italian IGT wine isn't made in line with strict standards, but allows the creativity of the wine maker to work with the grapes as he/she sees best. Toro's pizza just might be the one thing I am going to miss most about moving away from Durham. I just wish they had opened back up before I left.

Oh - and if you get the kale salad (to make yourself feel like its a healthy meal out) you won't regret it!

“Best pizza crust...ever.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014

This place has been closed since Novemeber 2013 because of damage from a fire. The residents of downtown Durham are in serious withdrawal. The owners and chef have done a great job with this place - it truly is one of the best restaurants in the Triangle. The atmosphere is relaxed yet cool. And the pizza...oh my the pizza. It is the best pizza crust I have had outside Italy. The bufala mozzerella is a must try. Reopen soon, Toro! We miss you!

“Really good pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

This was a very good pizza place. Great place in downtown Durham to stop for a bite to eat; its wood fired pizza with some really good toppings. Easily the best pizza in Durham. The only reason I gave it a 4 was the service was eh at best.

“Best pizza we've had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

We've had a lot of pizza at various restaurants in Canada and the US and the pizza here was the best! Great, neopolitano style pizza with amazing pairings and the crust even tasted great. Service was good and the atmosphere on a Saturday night was nice; be prepared to wait for a table but worth the effort.
