“Convenience, safe, sufficient”

Duke Tower doesn't look much like a tower. When I first read the name of the place, my imagination quickly flew to a tall castle tower with perhaps someone like Rapunzel in one of the windows. Alas, no jousting knights or fair maidens appeared at my arrival. In fact, this is a circa 1960's motel built in a square around a common area. There are two "towers" on the property, but they are actually left over chimneys from the tobacco industry which previously supported the economy in the South. But enough history and charm. Duke Tower is a great place to stay if you simply need a place to crash at the end of a day. It is clean and well maintained. The staff are extremely helpful and available. They offer a free 24 hour/day shuttle to local places, but not free shuttle to the airport ($35.00). The rooms are actually small condos which provide a living room, kitchen, bath and separate bedroom. Tempurpedic mattresses were comfortable. Although the decor was lacking, it was still overall a good experience and what I needed for attending a class at Duke University.

We stayed for four days at the Duke Towers as an experiment to see if we could travel with our dogs, since we spend alot of time in Durham. We were in the standard room, which was fine since we weren't expecting anything fancy in their pet designated rooms, but even then the room was well worn and last decorated in the 80's (early, I'm sure) Matching couch and chair was decked out in a mauve and mint green print that was accentuated by the kitty scratches on the armrests. Carpet was green, dark enough to cover up the multitudes of animals that had left their mark there. Maybe I'm being too critical, but as an interior designer by trade, I can think of several ways to make the place more inviting without a huge investment. (Sofas with slipcovers? wood or laminate floors?? some cheerful paint on the walls?) They had invested in temperpedic mattresses which were a big plus, but must have run out of funds afterwards. Also, providing a couple of bottles of shampoo in the bathroom would have been nice. These days, it's pretty much expected when you travel, so no one packs shampoo anymore. Made it very inconvenient to arrive at night and not have any shampoo for the morning. Since the rooms are only cleaned once a week (on Tuesdays for the wing we were staying in) and we arrived on the Thursday, we did not have the benefit of any maid service. We ran out of clean towels and soap by Saturday so we left just in time. On a good note, the staff was very accommodating and the courtyard is cheerful and well appointed. Wish I could say the same for the rooms!

My husband and I have stayed twice at Duke Tower hotel in the past year. Both times we were more than pleased at the accommodations. For about the price of an average hotel room, we were able to enjoy a well furnished condo with a living room, fully equipped kitchen, bedroom, and bath. There were even two T.V.'s, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Our check-in and check-out was easy and we even had help carrying our luggage to our room. The "hidden gem" was the beautiful courtyard centered in the property. It is a beautiful park with swimming pool, walking paths, private seating areas, a giant chess/checker game, and all kinds of flowers, shrubs, and trees. We noticed on our last visit there that they are also in the process of adding a water feature at one end. We have recommended Duke Tower Hotel to friends and we certainly plan on staying there each time we travel to the Raleigh-Durham area!

I completely enjoyed my stay at Duke Tower hotel. The rooms are actually four room apartments at a price about the sme as or better than a regular hotel. You get a seperate spacious bedroom, bathroom, well equipped full kitchen and living room/dining room. All the rooms overlook a beautiful courtyard with swimming pool. There are numerous great restaurants within walking distance of the place. That is, if you want to walk, because the hotel provides a free shuttle service 24 hours a day. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. i stayed there for a week and i will be staying again next time i am in durham!!!

This condo was so much better than a hotel room. Very clean. The beds are Temperpedic. They have a very nice courtyard, with games to play and a pool. The shuttle service worked out beautifully, especially if you are in Durham for medical needs. The staff was friendly and helpful of places to go and eat. The only few downfalls were the elevator was SLOW... but at least it was only to the second floor. Also, there was not enough kitchen towels and only 4 bowls and 4 plates... but really, if that's all I have to complain about, that's good.
We almost made a huge mistake and stayed at the Millennium. Check out the reviews on that place, and you'll come running back to the Duke Towers site!

Room Tip: We stayed in the "upgrade" room, and loved it. I don't think it was that much more ex...

OK, it ain't the Ritz Carlton. If that's what you want, go to the Ritz and spend the bucks. This is a well-maintained, clean, quiet, attractive hotel/condo dwelling within walking distance to the Duke University East Campus. There's a cute neighborhood a block away with early 20th century cottages that makes a nice walk/run on the way to the campus. The bed was comfortable and the TVs worked fine (not much of a TV watcher myself). Bring your own amenities, soap and shampoo, and coffee. Towels were clean and plentiful. There was a full kitchen in our suite and we bought some groceries and saved money on restaurants and were able to bring back leftovers when we did eat out. We were there in December so did not take advantage of the pool, which looked clean and well-maintained. There's also a small Putt-Putt type putting greens, shuffleboard and giant chess/checkers. Security is good. For folks who need elevators, there's only a small lift to go to the second floor. You may want to consider a ground floor room.
My wife and I were very pleased with our stay and we will be staying again.

Room Tip: No enclosed, formal elevator. It's a small, open-air lift. It works fine. If you need to use...

Duke Tower Hotel and Cono is a wonderful place to stay while in the Durham, N.C. area. Duke Tower has the most amazing staff. Not just nice but very helpful. They have a shuttle service that is literally 24 hr's. and 7 days per week. The units are clean even if some are a bit dated. The price is right and it is so comfy and quiet. My husband and I always stay at Duke Tower when we go to and from our visits to Duke Bone Marrow Clinic in Durham.

Room Tip: Because of medical issues that involved my husband, the staff always made sure we were on the ground...
