We live in Chapel Hill but come to Durham often for dinner. Whenever we passed Revolution on Main st., we told each other that we'd give it a try someday. I think we were both hesitant because we both hate hype. One day, a living social deal appeared on someone's iphone and a reservation was made.
When we arrived, our table was not ready. The hostess seated us at the bar while the table was being cleaned. Bar service was not so great. It took foreeeeverrrrrrrrrrrr for someone to come over and bring us a menu. I don't know what this was about. We did not order our drinks at the bar.
Our server came over right away and did a great job of making recommendations. We ordered the cider braised pork belly and duck and pepper jack tamales for starters. The pork belly was tender and had the most perfect cider flavor! The tamales were also very good. For entrees, I had the duck two ways and he had the spicy seafood chowder. The confit leg was much better than the breast portion, and the grits were not great. My partner's chowder was amazing. It has the right amount of spice, and huge pieces of seafood. The mussels in this dish were especially tasty!
The cuban dark and stormy is the BEST dark and stormy I've ever had! I think they infuse the rum so its spicy (which I loveeeeeee). The only complaint I have is that our table was way too small to accommodate all of our plates. We're total fatties and we'll take the blame for this.
I'd recommend this place if you're in the area. Good food and solid service in the dining area (not bar).
