“Review of 700 Building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

I have to disagree with many of the contributors here on the state of the resort. Remember, it's all about location.
It is not a 5-star chrome and glass resort. It is a 30 year old resort that is right on the beach and has taken hurricane after hurricane and still looks pretty good.
We were in the 700 building, and overall it was quite nice. It was a 5 minute walk to the beach or a 5 minute walk to the main road. The unit was clean, bedding was fine and kitchen appliances and utensils appeared to be new.
Beach was great and pool was fine. Crabbing and fishing at Duck Park was fun. Kite flying in the evening was great. Duck donuts are to die for. And all of this within walking distance.

We come here every year because this is our family's timeshare and we love the location. However, it still looks like it did when we bought it 30 years ago. Out dated and moldy. They swear to me every year that they are going to remodel our unit. It has yet to happen. The last hurricane did damage to our unit so they fixed the sliding glass door, replaced our tv and stand, pulled but did not replace a portion of the carpet padding (left the carpet though). Housekeeping did NOT do their job. It looked like they left mid-clean. I had to finish it. The kitchen floor was filthy and sticky. There were large peanut shells left on the floor in one of the bedrooms...thank God we don't have peanut allergies! The AC unit had frozen over so we had to have the maintenance guy (sweet and helpful) hang out to warm up the unit then restart it. Outdoor pool is still in good shape. They've redone the decking around the Snack Shack from the beach to the pool so that's great. The Snack Shack is open more often which is also a bonus. Their activities directors are still going strong and have plenty to offer. Like that they've put in a pool table and kept the ping pong table in the rec center. Weight room needs an upgrade. The steam room was "upgraded" but was not put in correctly and causes puddles. The sauna is so narrow that I worried about running into the heating element. They really must upgrade the tot lots. The old wood and steel makes it unsafe for the kids. Tennis courts and shuffle board courts are still looking good. Indoor pool area is better but the pool itself and hot tub are still in need of proper sealing. The tiles around the hot tub were not installed properly and now are molding. They did add recycling to their waste management which I'm pleased to see. Overall, if it weren't for the location, we would move our timeshare to another property. We will continue to come back till our lease is up but hope that the upgrades are eventually done before then.

Amazing location!
Everything else disappointing...
Front office closes at 5pm so we had to check in with security who were rude. Our unit was left open to the elements and uncleaned. We were able to get Rick the Property Managers phone number but he would not speak to us or provide us with any information. Security was able to get in touch with a member of the cleaning company contracted by the resort (She was helpful). She came back and cleaned the unit. However, it was after 11pm when she was finished.
Overall the resort is run down, dirty, and mouldy. I grew up going to timeshare and this has to be the worst one I have ever seen.
My kids asked if we could drive home to Massachusetts.

We were very satisfied with the location and especially the size of the unit. With 3 younger kids, we were not on top of each other throughout our stay. However, the unit interior was very dated. Would be a nice resort if the furniture, paint, carpet and appliances were updated. The kids loved being able to choose between an indoor pool or outdoor pool. We liked that there was parking by the beach access and that there was a lifeguard on duty at the access. Overall, we would stay here again, we are out of the unit more than we are in it.

The resort on the whole is a little outdated, but under new management and they seem to be updating on a regular basis. If you have one of the upper level units prepare to walk up and down steps, but then you are the ones with the ocean view. A must to do, is to check out the activities schedule. Unfortunatly we did not find out until near the end of our visit about these, but Marcella and Abby are wonderful and made our vacation all that much better. Would definetly go back.

We decided to order our groceries from a delivery service and had them delivered and in our unit, with the refrigerator items already in the fridge before we got there. Well worth the service fee, especially if you are in one of the upper units. I had total knee replacement a few months before we went, so this was perfect for me.

BIS @ Duck is a nice place to stay. The property is just a little older & the property is in a constant state of repair. Understandable. Guess Im just spoiled & have high expectations. The units are nice and so are the grounds. Still would prefer this private resort to a hotel stay @ the beach.Indoor & outdoor pools. Plenty of paid activities offered.Great deli nearby. Plenty of good shops nearby. Of course expect loads of traffic during the summer months at the Outer Banks. This is not a luxury vacation but is a nice place to stay for a Duck vacation. The Atlantic ocean is your front yard. Enjoy.

The location is ideal since it is in the heart of DUCK, NC near all the shoppes and fun eateries.
It has a gated entrance so no strangers can wander the resort = great if you have kids.
Yoga on the beach and water aerobics were so much fun everyday. The winding hilly terrain is perfect for morning walks. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. The Barrier Island decks and walkways are being upgrading but it was not disruptive. They are even building an outdoor bar by the HUGE winding pool. Love the decks to the beach. Great family fun!

Room Tip: Rooms are on multi levels, If you have young children or steps are a bother, ask for a first level s...
