“Convenient but definitely bare bones...not the usual HIE”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2012

Needed this location as a last minute stay for a funeral in the area. would not stay here again but for $80 this bare bones location was just OK.

The OK - connecting room, microwave and small fridge. Bed was fine. Front desk attendant was nice and we had a view of the mountains.

The BAD - wouldn't walk around on the rug in our bare feet. Bathroom had mold and towels have seen better days. Pool was a disgrace - told there were a ton of children in the pool the other day and they are trying to get the water filled up again!

Location definitely needs an update.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay here....ask for a mountain view. Hotel very small so rooms are all easy to...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

My daughter is a student at Western Carolina University, and my husband and I ALWAYS stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Dillsboro. It is a little out of the way from WCU, but there are VERY few hotels in this area and when we did stay one time at the River Escape, it was nice, but they charged us for a night that we didn't stay and it took us forever to straighten that out.

The Holiday Inn Express is right off the Highway on the way to Cherokee, but just minutes from Dillsboro and Sylva. While on the Hwy, it is not noisy. We have stayed on both sides of the hotel, and I do prefer the side facing the parking lot. If you are looking for a view, this is not really a hotel for that. It is a hotel to accomadate the traveler that is in the area for a purpose or passing through. The view from our window is a few trailers up on a hill. The few from the Highway side is mostly trees. But for our purposes, this is no problem.

This time we had the King Suite that had a couch, small table and 2 chairs. VERY spacious!
The room smelled and looked clean the moment we walked in. A frig and microwave come with the suite and it had some plasticware and plates in a ziplock bag for your use. NICE 42" flatscreen and plenty of channels.

The bed was what you would expect for a Hotel for this price. No frills such as down pillows or pillowtop matress or fluffy blankets. The pillows gave you a choice of firm or soft, but both seemed the same to me. The bed was comfortable. Like I said, for the price, it was fine. NO bedbugs ....which is what we all want ...right?

The shower/tub had plenty of hot water and was clean and your average ammenities.

The breakfast is really good, and the people who work here on the weekend mornings are SUPER nice! This one lady, and I HATE that I don't know her name, has been there everytime we go, and she is super nice and always makes sure you have everything you need and tells the guests to drive safely and so forth. A really nice touch. There is a pool and hot tub, but we have only used the hot tub once.

All in all, always very pleased with this hotel!

My room was large with a jacuzi tub, microwave and wet bar. Not one problem or complaint with the room, it's cleanliness, ammenities, noise or decor. Everything was perfectly nice. I was told the pool was closed, but should be repaired by later that evening. It was repaired and open when I returned from dinner.

This is a relatively new hotel with very helpful staff. We received an upgrade room, so it had a sleeper sofa along with 2 queen beds. The room was well kept and quite comfortable. The hotel was very quiet, and we had a great night's sleep. Will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: I don't know that you stay here for fantastic mountain views. You stay here for the convenience...

called & spoke w/ front desk person about room before making reservation. they assured me that my room would have a wonderful view of the mountains. we had a "no smoking" room. the room stunk, there were cigarette burn marks on the tub, the hall stunk of smoke, 80% of the view from our room was the hotel's canopy and 2 mobile homes. there was a low mountain that you could see if you looked extremely to the right. the bathroom door was placed so that we could not get the wheelchair past the door without closing the door and then reopening the door after pushing the wheelchair up into the corner. (this was a handicapped room). the desk person was kind & apologetic- he gets a 5 star rating.

Room Tip: if you smoke, aren't handicap and don't care what's out the window or want a hotel that...

I was given a back corner room with two queen beds. First time I stayed in a corner room and man what a BIG room it was....the TV was great, AC was cold, however it did make a noise that woke me up a few times during the night.

Very Quite!!!!

If you are looking for rest, stay here...

Room Tip: ask for a corner room, even numbers

This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a pet friendly hotel. The rooms are well kept and clean. It was also very quiet. This hotel is close to many day excursions: the falls in Bryson City and Highlands, as well as the Great Smoky National Park and Gorges State Park.
