“Great first visit to the Outer Banks!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

When we first booked our room at the Inn I had read several mixed reviews, but decided to give it a go due to the new mgmt. Man, am I glad I did! Dan, the Innkeeper, went well out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay! He would greet us when we came in for breakfast, and when we came back at the end of the day. The inn felt exactly like I hoped it would, home. If we had any issues, Dan was there to ensure things were resolved in a quick timely fashion. Corolla was absolutely beautiful, and loved the fact the Inn allowed me quick access to many great photographic locations. Also, I've read some negative reviews that seem to be about things that the Inn can't control (smell of the sound, bugs, moisture in the rooms, etc.) and in my opinion, when you're researching the Outer Banks, these are things you should know and expect before you ever get there. Knowing these things, I KNOW we will be making a return trip to the Outer Banks, and the Inn at Corolla Light. So take the chance I did, have realistic expectations, and I know you'll have a great time! Dan, thank you again for making our stay so fantastic! It's due to you and your great staff that we'll be back in 2013!

I'm in a business where I get phone calls and contracts everyday, so when I get away for an overnight, it has to be a place where I can lay back and regroup. This fall I made the perfect choice for a respite at The Inn at Corolla Light. It was not too far from home (Virginia Beach), sequestered between the trees and sound, and peacefully quiet. Our room overlooked the sound and provided a deck for us to kick back and enjoy some cheese and a glass of wine. Inside our room had a fridge too keep snacks cold and a fireplace for added ambiance. After wine and cheese, we followed the inn keepers suggestion and ate at North Banks in Corolla. It was a hoppin' restaurant with good food and spirits. Breakfast was provided by the Inn and the sausage was exceptional. On our way home we hiked a park and did some shopping. The Inn at Corolla Light and the attentive staff is the way to savor a day off work. Oh, did I mention this was all when hurricane Sandy was approaching the Outer Banks?

Room Tip: From what I could tell each room is unique. We had a sound front room and enjoyed the view. The de...

Sunsets from the dock are incomparable but that doesn’t make up for uncomfortable, saggy beds and stained upholstered furniture. Things looked clean until I moved things like the coffee maker and a night stand lamp. Breakfast was passable, taken from the Holiday Inn Express playbook, without the pancakes or waffles. Prepare yourself for weak coffee and prepackaged food. Their claim to fame is some local sausage, which appeared steamed!! I expected more. Not staying here again.

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay. We replaced most of the bedding last winter and will be upgrading the rest this winter. We try to brew the coffee to suit the broadest tastes. We wish you had let us know that you wanted strong coffee, we could have fixed that in a heartbeat!

We had a terrific time at Inn at Corolla Light. Everything was wonderful! The staff was delightful and personable (soooo different from your typical hotel:). We were able to use their bikes to ride around, played shuffleboard, used the jacuzzi (that didn't close really early!), and enjoyed watching the sunset over the sound at the end of their pier. Everything was clean and breakfast was filling. I'd reccommend this place to anybody!

Spouses went from Wash. DC for Oct. weekend getaway and made reservations over internet at last minute with no prior knowledge of Inn and arrived Sat and left Mon. Had not been to Outer Banks being Chicago natives now working in DC. The room we received faced the small pool and SW to intercoastal. The room was something I may have appreciated as a 20 something in a Florida motel. Had same worn smell and look, somewhat uncleaned and old appliances with dirty curtain that got stuck in sliding doors when trying to open/close. This would recommend advanced planning. No room pictures on internet that I recall. The reception was cold but observed someone being given a free bottle of champagne on arrival but not available to all. My guess is that planning is and knowing someone in area is advantageous. Weather was good first fay and boardwalk to sunset was nice after putting towels ondead bug laced benches that could also benefit by a thorough cleaning. Clientel was mix of old with some young guns in upper studios. Wasn't shown around. The breakfast was pure Holiday Inn Express and maybe worse. No character or local cuisine added. Brought our bikes but limited biking as road ends at ORV area. Sunday everything was shut down. Bottom line is bad planning, bring an SUV or ORV to drive the beach. Also the ocean pool was not available in surrounding complex owned by same company although previously stated as available. Some ok restaurants and a challenging golf course nearby. Would no go bak to Corolla as too over populated and not really attractive. Many multi-unit homes and must be absolutely crazy crowded in summer. I know there must be more attractive Outer Banks experiences than here and will try again. But if this is representative, even though lived in Florida with same problems...guess what go to Florida,

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay in beautiful Corolla. Different strokes for different folks. Most people find it enchanting despite the surrounding developments. With the easy escape to the pristine Oceanside beaches and Sound-side nature trails plus the Wild Horses of Corolla there is lots to see and do. Guided Wild Horse tours leave from the Inn every day and jeeps for exploring on your own are also readily available.

We are also wondering if you actually had our breakfast? Most people rave about the Carolina sausages that we serve every morning. If people let us know that they are celebrating honeymoons and anniversaries we like to offer a complimentary bottle of champagne.

So far as pictures of the rooms, did you look at the Rooms tab on our website? Because every room at the Inn is unique we have placed photographs of the rooms on the website for all to see. While booking rooms, many people actually view our website while talking to us on the phone.

So far as the Oceanside Pool: It is a seasonal pool and is a part of the Corolla Light Resort as is the Inn. It is not the same ownership. We have no control over when it is open or closed. The Inn's Sound-side pool and whirlpool were still available during your stay.

Since you brought your own bikes you didn't need to use one of our free bikes so we did not have the opportunity to give you some tips on biking in Corolla. There are more trails than you could cover in several days. Sure wish you had talked to us about the biking trails.

We only stopped for a night and were so taken with the views, solitude and location that we stayed for two more nights and wished it were more. Great to be away from the hustle further south yet with all the amenities you need in the area. We would definitely return. We hope all is well after the recent storms. Thanks to our wonderful hosts for the hospitality and great breakfasts!

Room Tip: Definitely go for the rooms overlooking the sound.

With no reservations made, we stopped at Inn at Corolla Light because it was to the far northern end of the Outer Banks and we had a horse tour later in the afternoon so didn't want to be hunting for a room at dinner time. First surprise was the unique layout--I love unique!--up and down wood walkways, stone pool areas and lush courtyard, breakfast with tablecloths. Second was an upgrade to waterside with a fireplace because it was available. Third surprise was a gift for our anniversary--what a great reception! I wasn't sure how we were going to celebrate but now we have a lovely memory for our anniversary thanks to the Inn at Corolla Light. By the way, it is just down the beach from the light and the Whalehead Club and of course the Spanish horses. Oh, and breakfast was delightful--more like a B&B than a motel.
