“Great location & beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

This Hampton Inn is in a great neighborhood and a short drive to shops and restaurants. The hotel is RIGHT ON the beach and it's not crowded at all. Good for surf fishing too. I'd definitely stay here again. Their a/c works GREAT and their breakfasts were wonderful, as always. Our ocean front room's balcony was the best part. Worth the upgrade to get one.

Room Tip: It's worth it to upgrade to an ocean front room.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for two nights to extend our trip to the Outer Banks after staying at Sanderling down the road in Duck for a few nights.

First, I have to say that the service was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly from the front desk staff to the housekeepers. As others have said, the local cat Sysco really adds to the friendliness and family-feel of the place. There are a lot of awards / trophies in the lobby, so I can see that they have a history of great service.

That said ... the hotel needs a serious refitting. I was shocked when I learned how "new" the hotel actually is, as I felt like I was on a trip back-in-time to my childhood of the late 80's / early 90's. I've stayed in lots of Hampton Inns and am used to their high standards, classy décor, and contemporary, modern feel. This Hampton Inn is a little tired and worn out. From the flower blossom carpet, to the peeling wallpaper, to the saggy, worn out furniture in our room, the leaking shower faucet, the mildew in the bathroom, and the mess of spiderwebs, dead bees nests, and bug debris on the balcony ... the place needs some serious remodeling. As the hotel was very crowded, I imagine they are doing well financially, and I would assume if the owners care about the place there will be a facelift in the near future. Otherwise, I predict we will see a Best Western or Clarion Hotel and Suites sign over the property in the future.

In spite of all the wear and tear issues, I would stay here again simply for the great beach, location (between Corolla and Duck), and service ... ONLY as a place to sleep while enjoying our time elsewhere during the day. If you are coming just for the beach, by all means give this place a try (the beach here is MUCH nicer, wider, and better sand than the beach at the Sanderling). If you are looking for a place to stay that offers more than a clean bed, I would suggest paying the extra money for the Sanderling.

Room Tip: There is no benefit to an "ocean view" room .. the sand dunes are so high that you really...

We really enjoyed this hotel stay. Beach was good, pools were clean & fun. The breakfast was hot & people friendly. Service from everyone was very good. Lots of tables & chairs outside for a picnic lunch. Only stayed 2 nights but really enjoyed everything!!

Room Tip: Only hotel we saw on this island. We could walk out our back door to beach & pool.

We were able to get a junior suite for $179 on the week of Forth of July, which is VERY hard to find! The location is quiet and nicely secluded on the beach. The beach in 100 feet away from the two outdoor pools, with beach needs available for rental.

The only negative was that there is only one overpriced restuarant nextdoor, and it's a 5+ mile drive for anything other than that. Otherwise a great location and well kept hotel!

We chose to stay at the Hampton Inn Monday - Friday to avoid the crazy weekend traffic getting into and out of OBX on the weekends. There weren't many options so we picked this place based on amenities and location. We weren't disappointed, everyone had a great time and the beach was not crowded at all. Even with so many families staying at the hotel, it was never noisy and the pool was never crowded either. We stayed in a King suite with no view and pull out couch for our family of 4. It was perfect. We used the mini kitchen to make sandwiches, the fridge fit our deli meat, cheese, condiments, beverages and we had popsicle and ice packs in the freezer. The only downside is that it's not near any restaurants, you have to drive 5-10 minutes, but it's a small price to pay for the privacy of the beach.

Great location....way up at the northern tip of the outer banks. Came back after about 3 years and was astounded at the growth that has taken place! Close to the area of wild horses. This hotel has a couple if pools and a beautiful location on the beach. Nice breakfast and courteous staff.

Upon check-in, Lauren was kind enough to call us when our room was ready. This was such a nice touch. Additionally, we had originally booked a king w/ sofa bed room. At check in, Justin offered a fantastic upgrade for a very reasonable price and it turned out to be one of the best hotel vacation stays in all of my vacation years (I'm 42)!! The staff were friendly, the property was clean and overall the experience was absolutely amazing and perfect in every way!! It was our first time staying at the Corolla location and we will definitely be back! Thanks for such a wonderful stay!
