Sonny's has been a must-stop place for me for many, many years. I was clearly disappointed in the most recent visit after savoring the idea for two hours of my travels en route. The barbecue and fries arrived quickly, yet were cold, and the quantity somewhat small from many, many previous visits.
I arrived alone at almost 2 p.m. They looked at me "odd" when I told them I was alone and irritated when I asked for a booth. My server was decently attentive and I was too rushed to complain about the temperature of the food so I can't really evaluate that portion. I just know that they have typically promoted that they cut the barbecue to order and it used to come out steaming hot. This almost seemed "processed" or stored in some way -- hard to describe since it's meat -- it just seemed different.
They have also updated their interior, which is nice, but it almost seems like they did this at this expense of food and service, which were the two things that kep me coming back for years.
