We were excited to go visit the GWL and for us it was only a 2.5 hr drive. The lodge is nicely decorated and the water park was very fun for my daughter. The downside of this hotel is the price,,, for the room we had it was way overpriced. When we pulled out the extra blanket to use for the foldout couch it had dried blood or something similiar looking on it. They brought us a new one and it also had something on it. Their attention to detail is just lacking in a hotel that is $300 a night! The room fridge wasn't level and the carpet very worn. While the room was spacious and being on the 4th floor we had nice sloping ceilings that lended more of that lodge feeling, the bathroom was tiny and the placement of the light switch was akward.
The clock show is so dated and cheesy, again not something you expect from a $300 a night "resort". Then there is the onsite food,, crazy expensive. At least someone had warned me of that upfront so I was prepared to eat meals offsite and luckily there are many places of varying price points close by.
