Dear hairbyt,
We're sorry that we couldn't make it worth your while to visit that day. Due to icy conditions, we occasionally have to close down sections of our trails for the safety of our guests, which is our first priority. Check our website for daily updates on these potential closures. The elevator has been an ongoing issue that's being worked on and should be resolved by spring. We apologize for the inconvenience, and folks should be prepared to hike this winter. Give us another shot this spring when you can get an easy ride to the top. Or if visiting while the elevator is down, there's a great view from the top parking area that requires no hiking for 75-mile views on a clear day!
Sincerely,
Chimney Rock PR Manager

“Great view...be ready to stair climb!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

2nd time to Chimney Rock. It is an interesting rock formation and provides a great view/photo op of the area especially with the large American flag flying from the chimney. Wife and I worked our way up the stairs...alot of them, but no rush is needed. Not crowded, but it was an overcast day in December so I am sure that is crowded in spring and summer. Nice gift shop with very friendly attendants. Restrooms were clean. The little town at the entrance road had some good stores and privately owned restuarants right on the river. Glad I added this excursion to the weekend road trip.

“Scenic .. visit during fall !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

Great scenic views + beautiful drive + lots of stairs = Chimney Rock !!
If you are not a big fan of stairs then there is an elevator too. I recommend visiting during fall, the colors look fantastic from the height.

“Great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

Great view with an elevator to take you most of the way up to the top of the rock (view). My wife and I chose to walk the stairs after sitting in the car for so long getting to the park. We were staying in Asheville and whether you take the mtn road or the interstate (part way) it is a long drive to get there. If you decide to go, be sure to take the short walk up the stairs behind Chimney Rock for a view that will include looking down on Chimney Rock. Be aware that there is a $15 per person fee. We got a price break of $12 because the trail to the falls was closed. I hear that is another great view but we didn't get to go there.

Dear Joe_Travler,
Thanks for your great review and recent visit! Please note the elevator is out of service and will likely remain so until at least the end of February for another custom part replacement. The waterfall trail is being repaired from a major rockslide and is expected to reopen sometime in 2014 -- we're hoping by summer, but we don't have an official timeline. Check chimneyrockpark.com for regular updates!
Sincerely,
Chimney Rock PR Manager

“Beautiful drive and views.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

We drove up to chimney rock because we had planned on going up Blue Ridge pkwy and it was closed due to black ice. The elevator to the top was closed so we had to take the stairs. All 600 plus steps (ouch) but it was fun and amazing views from the half way point and the top.
