In town for business at the last minute. Lodging choices were almost nil due to a concert at the Casino and some other local event. Usual places that we stay were all booked. We knew nothing of this place, but chose to give it a try as other choices were far less desirable. We were pleased and have been back twice since the first stay. The room was clean, on the ground floor and off to the side, so very little road noise. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was clean but could have used just a little TLC on the tiles and paint. Staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, this is a good "mid-range" location in Cherokee. It's not full of frills but it's not run down and in poor repair either. More than adequate for a few nights in town.

We booked this hotel only because it accepted pets and we had to be in Cherokee for Labor Day for business. There were only two hotels, I believe, that allowed pets in Cherokee and this one was less expensive and had OK reviews. However, when we checked in, they added a $25 PER NIGHT pet fee which we felt was a little steep. The "pet" rooms are in a separate building behind the main hotel, and the building is behind an adjacent shopping center. The shopping center's dumpster is very close to these rooms and they are emptied, noisily, every morning around 8 AM by a large garbage truck. Kind of scary walking my dog behind a shopping center - very dark and not really anyplace to walk the dog. My husband felt it necessary to come outside with me every time we had to take our dog out. The on-site restaurant was not open at all. The front desk staff advised us that they chose not to open it "this season". The room was tired, but clean, the bedsheets so thin you could watch TV through them. The bed was OK and the pillows were OK. In-room fridge and microwave was a plus. The water pressure was very low as well and made getting a shower difficult, and washing your hair almost impossible. Would not stay here again. Not sure why higher paying "pet" families are relegated to the rear of the property - we stay at Sheraton Hotels often - they accept pets and don't charge any extra fees.

Cherokee, as a whole, seems to have deteriorated overall - maybe because of the Casino pulling all of the visitors (and their money) away? Kind of sad, really. We did have good meals at Peter's Pancakes & Waffles (great breakfast), Granny's Kitchen (good buffet dinner) and Country Boy BBQ (great lunch - owner says he usually sells out by 3 PM). Walked in and out of Pizza Inn - absolutely filfthy! Make sure you go out to dinner before 8 PM or you will be at a fast food chain. The town rolls up the sidewalks. Oh yeah, and bring your own adult beverages with you - none available in Cherokee, not at the convenience store or at the restaurants (unless you are at the Casino).

Last minute decision to visit Harrah's Casino, they were booked and offered us comps to stay in this motel. I have to say when I read the reviews I was really worried it wasn't going to be clean or efficient but accepted the offer anyway. I have to say some of the reviews I read were totally misleading. We arrived and had no problems whatsoever with anything. The room was very clean, the office is opened 24 hrs, very friendly staff and was a very pleasant stay for us. We will definitely consider this motel of choice the next time we visit.

There are only a few middle-priced hotels in the Cherokee area, and the Magnuson was one of them. The Casino will obviously be the most modern and expensive hotel in town, but at around $160 a night, is it really that expensive? Then there are the dozens of old-fashioned mom and pop motels, offering inexpensive rates of $40-60 a night. I'm a little leery of staying in cheap motels like that, so I Pricelined a $73 rate and ended up at the Magnuson.

The hotel and the grounds are nicely taken care of, and the rooms are clean. The cleaning staff were plentiful, and very friendly. The hotel is close by everything, and within walking distance of restaurants and shopping. The pool is a good size and would be great to swim in.

Something to know about Cherokee: It is a dry town. The only alcohol served is in 1-2 high end restaurants and the casiono. They do not even sell beer in the supermarkets, so plan ahead.

Got the room thru HOTWIRE for $78/night. Great price considering I booked it the week before the trip. I was expecting worst after reading reviews and having been to a couple of hotels in area at the last minute because of Casino for higher prices, this hotel was wonderful whether there for the casino or there for the sights. Room (216) was clean. Did not look like it need remodeling or updating. Bed was comfortable. There wasn't any noise that we heard. TV was old but who goes on vacation to watch TV. I DVR the important Shows. Clean refrigerator and microwave in room. Great for leftovers. Make sure you get food before 10pm or you will have to go to Casino. Who goes to the mountains to expect Belks, Macy's or Dilliards?? Family owned Mom and pop shops make up the uniqueness of small town USA. It was too cold for pool which is surprising for Aug. but pool looked clean. Overall, I have not one bad thing to say. Definitely on our list for a return visit if we can't get into HARRAHS Hotel.

Do not touch this 'hotel' with a barge pole. Not what we expected at all. Some staff helpful, most couldn't care less.

Room was clean to a point: no visible dirt, but carpet felt disgusting underfoot. Weren't overly confident the beds were clean either. Hairdryer had literally been burnt (half of it was melted) but it was left in the room for use. When reported at reception, they barely stopped themselves laughing. Cherokee was an awful town, and this hotel sat perfectly in it. Not recommended at all! The worst point of our road trip by a very long way!

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel!
