“Nice Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

My family and I had to make last-minute plans to stay at Smoky Mountain Inn and Suites over Thanksgiving weekend. Given that it was one of the few hotels with vacancy and it was almost half the price of hotels we considered, we felt a sense of dread in making our reservation. To our suprise, though, the rooms were comfortable, the shower great, the room very clean, and the staff helpful. If we never tried the continental breakfast, we would have given this hotel excellent reviews. The dining area presentation was quite poor and the food/drink selections anemic. Overall, however, we did (and would) stay at this hotel again. We can find breakfast elsewhere, if need be.

Our trip was fantastic. We stopped in Helen, GA and stayed then went onto Cherokee, NC. We paid 3 times more for the hotel in Helen and there was no difference. The hotel was very clean and the desk clerks were exceptional. The only thing I would change would be to put a fridge in the room. Friendliness and cleanliness is most important. (half a mile from Casino) We went for the fall colors and the Casino, the hotel is for sleep and resting so I am very satisfied. (Hint) I got a great deal cause I went directly to their website.

Room Tip: You will get a jacuzzi with a king room. Double rooms do not have a bathtub or fridge.

We went to Bryson City for the fall colors. It was the last hotel available for a 1 hr radius. There is no refrigerator or microwave so no chance of keeping or reheating food. Also there is no tub. Over all though, it's a good value. We paid $89 for the night which was one of the cheaps rooms around. Again, everything else was taken. The staff was very friendly.
Try to get the top level. The floor/ceiling is so thin we could hear the people above us everytime they walked across the room.

My daughter and I spent one night there during our trip. The room was nice and clean, the beds were very comfortable, the room was extremely quiet. The desk clerks (Heather and others) was helpful and went out of her way when I discovered that I left home without my wallet with my ID and credit cards etc. The breakfast bar was ok, if not a little skimpy. It was more of a continental type breakfast. I plan to stay there again on my next trip.

The room smelled like a cigar, it was a non-smoking room, 19" TV, got about 12 TV channels, the manager and people working there were rude and pretty much stupid. The fire alarm went off early the next morning waking us up and being evacuated, there wasn't a fire. We checked out after 1 night and was told we wouldn't be charged for 2 nights, were charged for 2 nights anyway. Called them, was told they couldn't do anything, my credit card co. is taking care of it. This place is a joke.

Rick W, General Manager at Smoky Mountain Inn & Suites, responded to this review, October 20, 2012
We are very concerned with our reputation at the Smoky Mountain Inn and Suites. We work very hard to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience at our hotel. When you see multiple positive comments about the hotel and then read this comment, it creates significant concern.

My level of concern was raised, as there were none of these issues shared with any of our team, at the hotel. We encourage all of our guests to let us know if there is anything that we can do to make their stay better.

I would appreciate you calling me directly to discuss the claims made in your comments. I look forward to hearing from you very soon. We certainly want the opportunity to continue to earn you future patronage, as we have many guests staying with us on a repeat basis.

Our family stayed the weekend of September 28 thru September 30. The facility was very clean and stocked. Our daughters really enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The breakfast was grab and go which worked well for us. We loved that the location was not right in the middle of everything but close enough. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Althought the rooms were smaller than some we definitely had a great time.

Room Tip: Our room was first floor close to the pool area. Loved the easy access.

Close to casino, grocery, shopping, and trails to hike. Great view from room, jacuzzi tub in suite. Easy access. Basic breakfast- muffins and coffee and juice and bagels. Great rate- found out they are open year-round so it is easy to go on a weekend when most of the shops are open to have a quiet weekend. Going back in November. Melanie at front desk was helpful and very kind.
