“Smoke filled and no winners”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2009

There were three of us you came for a long weekend. The first day I was actually sick due to the smoke. On Monday - it was a little better. The non-smoking area is a total joke. The few penny machinces are pushed into one corner. The higher denomations are hardly even used.
This is the second time we stayed at the hotel - why do we always get the last room on the hall.
I know that when all the construstion is finished it will be better. It is a shame that you are not letting anyone win so that you can pay for it.
I would have thought that maybe 1 of the three is us could have at least broke even.

Very disappointing. We reserved a Premium Soco Tower room and were given one of the old Mountain Tower rooms. THE HOTEL DOES NOT GUARANTEE ROOM TYPE EVEN IF YOU PAID FOR IT! NO REFUNDS. So, you may think you will be staying in a nice jacuzzi, non-smoking room but end up in something entirely different. Bait and Switch is the rule here.

Many of the slot machines would not accept cash. Most of the machines are the ancient BAR BAR CHERRY machines and as others have commented, they do not pay. I had to wait 10 minutes for a techician to print out a rare cash winnings ticket after the machine jammed.

All hotel views are currently dominated by a vast construction site of an enormous parking deck.

I believe this hotel/casino would be out-of-business quickly if there was any competition nearby but they have a captive audience.

I think that because this is the only casino short of a days drive from the North and South Carolina, Georgia area, they are ripping people off. Nowhere to go other than the casino. Or look out the window at the mountains. Nowhere to walk to, no sightseeing or trips around the so called Indian Village.

The only reason I can see for anyone going here is to gamble. Take my word for it and stay home. Take all your available cash and burn it in the fireplace. You will have the same results if you gamble at this casino. I shouldn't even use the word "gamble" because it is a "guarantee" that they will take all your money. No chance to win. When we were there, they were announcing $500 winners like they had just won a million dollars. Poker machine odds are horrible, very low payout odds on slots. Some winners on the $5.00 and $25.00 machines but who knows how much they lost first. The hotel is nice but who cares when you are there to gamble. Go to the Gulf or Las Vegas instead.

We just returned from three nights -- and it much exceeded my expectations, based on some of what i'd read here earlier.
As for the gaming, it's all electronic. And there's no booze. But we knew that going in.
I won about $1,000 betting $1 a spin during my first hour of play and kept winning for the first 24 hours). Though i lost a bit in the ensuing days, we still finished way ahead.
The property is very nice. rooms in mountain tower were very nice.
The pool was packed with kids, which mine (6 and 8) really enjoyed ... along with the arcade.
Dinner at Selu's was good. Not spectacular, but good.
Two gripes: Valet parking (which is all that's available right now) is a complete disaster, due to renovations. We're talking no less than 20 minutes to get the car. And we once waited 40. Not sure i'd go back before that's fixed.
That one's explainable. The room service wait -- 90 minutes both times we called -- was not. That should be fixed.
Oh, they also need hi-speed internet. Right now, it's dial-up ... which i didn't even know any hotels had anymore.
But the staff was very friendly. The nature hikes, horseback riding and whatnot was top notch. And add to that, we won some money, well, a very nice trip all around.
(Rooms were comped based on past harrah's play, so can't speak for price.)

Hello my experience with North Carolina was a very plesant one. The Casino have there machines so tight where you cant win. I wouldnt recommend any one going there.if they think they will win. The hotel and staff are top notch. The Casino is smokey and even some of the players are racist. I have won more money by staying at hm. I hope that they loosen up the machines so people can really win a little. Beautiful place outside that. And the smoke got to go. But its the SMOKIES and i gues it is fitting.

We visit every couple of months. We had rooms in a non-smoking section and that was great. There is too much smoke in other areas such as elevators and lobby. The casino has a small, boring non-smoking area. The main casino has a lot of fun machines but you never are sure what to expect. One night all machines seem hot and the next night they all are just dead. Don't know if that's just luck or if they are programmed that way. I enjoy the place but more smoking restrictions in the hotel and a larger more excitng non-smoking area would be nice. I always end up smelling like smoke. I used to smoke two packs a day but stopped and now realize how ignorant smoking is!
